Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics Top What these workers do Dancers express ideas, stories, rhythm, and sound with their bodies. Some dance in ballet; others perform modern dance. Dancers work in musical shows, in folk, ethnic, tap, and jazz dances. Opera, musical comedy, television, movies, music videos, and commercials often include dancing as well. Many dancers sing and act, as well as dance. Dancers often work as a group. A few stars dance solo. Many dancers also teach or choreograph dances.
Choreographers create new dances. They may also add changes to older dances. Some teach dancers to get the results they want. Top What the job is like Dancing is hard work. Rehearsals often are long and usually take place daily. Many rehearsals take place on weekends and holidays. Weekend travel is common when a show is on the road. Dancers must also work late hours and practice during the day.
Because dancing is hard work, most dancers stop working by their late thirties. Sometimes they become dance teachers and coaches.

Why Get Certified? Enrollment About Diane Jarmolow ... Home Read the Raves! "We just had the best time studying for Terpsichore exams with Diane. She made everything so fun and easy. She is so knowledgeable and such a wonderful, inspirational person who makes the theory fun and understandable. We would recommend Diane and her training program to any professional ballroom dancer. Her guidance and support will be tremendously helpful to you and to your career. And she is an absolutely fantastic person."
5 Time US Standard Ballroom Champions
"We adore Diane. She is a fabulous person and a true professional. She is extremely knowledgeable, and she has created a wonderful studio. The Metronome is an excellent place to learn to dance, and more importantly, it is one of the best places to learn to be a dance teacher in the country. You can see the results in the Metronome staff. Diane's teachers are talented, warm, great dancers, and a lot of fun to be around. We danced at the Metronome's opening, and at the Metronome's tenth anniversary, and we had a great experience both times. In short, we recommend Diane's program in the highest possible terms to anyone who is considering becoming a ballroom dance teacher. Diane will give you the tools you need to embark on a new career. You'll work really hard, but you'll also have a blast. You're in for a real treat!"
3-time Champions of PBS's "Championship Ballroom Dancing"
12-time US Representatives for the World Latin Championships "Diane has been an extraordinary mentor. I came to her as a young ballet dancer without much formal ballroom training. She taught me how to understand and teach ballroom technique. Her teaching style was clear, systematic, and very encouraging. With Diane's help, I was able to obtain my first NDCA certification from the U.S. Terpsichore Association. Her training has given me an invaluable foundation throughout my career as a teacher and world champion competitor. I recommend Diane's program to any serious ballroom dancer. She is a truly great teacher who loves her students and cares deeply about the future of the ballroom profession. Somehow, she manages to combine the highest standard of ethics and professionalism with a radiant joy that touches everyone in her class."

Studio owner, teacher kept dance card full By Diane Wright
Times Snohomish County bureau Mike Jordan E-mail this article Print this article Search archive Most e-mailed articles To the generations of students who learned to dance under Mr. Jordan's tutelage, it may have seemed that way. At the age of 69, he not only continued to run the 78-year-old Betty Spooner Creative Arts Foundation dance school, but the onetime Broadway dancer still graced the stage. "He felt good about still dancing on stage," Leight said. "He felt good about himself dancing. And he loved dancing." Mr. Jordan had finished performing a song-and-dance routine at a variety show in Snohomish and was driving a student home about 10 p.m. Thursday when he lost consciousness. The car coasted to a stop. Mr. Jordan died without regaining consciousness. The cause of death is presumed to be a heart attack or a stroke, according to his family. "I was stunned," said Leight, director of the variety show.

Crucifixion
By Phil Ochs
Notes:
Chords supplied by tonmaas@xs4all.nl (Ton Maas) and James Barnett. This is one of Phil's two songs about the late John F. Kennedy (although in his intro on the There and Now - Live in Vancouver 1968 album he extended it to Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, and to ``hero killing'' in general), the other song being That Was The President . Phil was also quoted (on 15-Dec-1965) as saying this about the song: "It's a song about Christ-killing, how all America and even, especially, New York loves to create heroes to moralize to them and then kill them violently, bloodily and dig the death so much, every detail of the death. It's a song about Jesus Christ. It's called The Crucifixion. It's a song about Kennedy. And maybe a song about Dylan." (In an interview a few months earlier, Phil expressed the belief that it would soon be too dangerous for Dylan to play out in public because he had become one of those heroes.) Christian Bartolf says that this song ``has been translated into German language by Walter Mossmann: The "Gorleben-Song" became the hymn of the civil disobedience movement against plutonium industry beginning of the Eighties. There was an influence of non-violent resistance against nuclear industry: Wyhl (Germany) - Seabrook (New Hampshire) - Gorleben (Germany). Walter Mossmann started to sing his political folk songs in Wyhl (Germany) during the Seventies. Back to the Phil Ochs home page

TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ THURSDAY, MAY 06, 2004 04:30:31 AM ]
A new form of fun for those who don't want to get too close to their dancing partners. Dance teacher Margaret Halliday came to India with an interesting brief from the International Dance Teacher's Association, UK: to do a survey of western dance culture in India. Among her findings: "In England, there are a lot of social dances, where people get together socially to dance the waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, tango, samba, cha cha cha or rumba," she says, "But here, people are more reserved. Parents don't like teenage daughters dancing with men." Margaret, who has specialised in dance forms like the gavotte and various Latin American dances and written a book on line dancing, also says that while some dances like salsa, jazz and ballroom run full at local dance schools, there seem to be few takers for Latin dance forms like rumba. She thinks Indians are excellent dancers. "The way they pick up dance steps is fantastic," she says, "After DanceSport comes into the Olympics in 2008, it will pick up in popularity, and there's every indication India will be ready by then."
