BASINGCLOG Morris is a mixed team of men and women dancers, performing North West Morris dancing. The team was formed in 1987, and since then has performed all over England, particularly appearing in folk festivals in the South of England, notably Sidmouth, Chippenham, Winchester and Towersey.
Basingclog believe in dancing to entertain, and we are renowned for the energy and enthusiasm we put into our dances, and for the volume of noise (normally in tune) generated by our band (the big drum being particularly noticeable).
During the summer months we can be found most Tuesday evenings dancing at one of the pubs in the Basingstoke area.

http://web.syr.edu/~htkeays/morris/hounds/
We are the Bassett Street Hounds
The Bassett Street Hounds, based in Syracuse, NY, have been performing the morris since 1985. Although originally formed as a Cotswold morris team, the Hounds now exclusively perform an exuberant and energetic variety of morris known as border Whereas Cotswold morris dances are largely drawn from their traditional village counterparts in Gloustershire and Oxfordshire, the border dances we perform are "creatively remembered"; that is they would have been traditional if we hadn't made them up. Our name, derived from the location of our original practice site and indicative of our incorrigible punning tendencies, is reflected in our use of dogwood sticks (with bark) and our tendency to howl at the drop of a garish floral cabbie cap. Our costume, or " kit " as we call it, consists of white trousers, white shirt, black shoes, ribbon-covered bell pads tied below the knees, afore-mentioned floral print cabbie cap, and, most distinctively, a nearly knee-length white coat covered with hundreds of raggedty ribbons. This kit is based on costumes worn by traditional border morris teams. Look for us ; we dance almost all year round, performing locally at community events and further afield at dance and morris events throughout the northeast. Each year we celebrate

Thames Valley Morris : Dance Traditions
TVM generally dance the dances in the style of the tradition, often as notated by Bacon but mainly as developed by the older members of the side over the 40 years the side has been dancing. The prime traditions of Thames Valley are Oddington and Sherbourne . TVM reconstructed the Oddington from the notes and has made it its 'own' tradition: a brisk, vigourous dance, danced with a subdued aggression. Other traditions danced include Fieldtown Bampton Headington Ilmington Ascot Adderbury Bledington Ducklington and Upton with odd dances from Brackley and Bucknell . More recent dances include Moulton and our own offerings, see Glaister's Gambol TVM is probably a traditional 'ring' side in its style of dance, generally brisk and low with the capers slow and high in contrast. It's a mixed age side so the height achieved depends on the age of dancers, the good dancers look as if they are dancing high. Navigation: Home Index Overview Site Map ... What's New
