Dance Meditation for Children and Teens Introduction We are integral beings; moving in daily rhythms and habits using our body, mind, emotions powered by spirited enthusiastic energy. Movement is natural; the force that gets us where we want, doing what we want. Dance meditation gets the body moving aerobically breathing increases, oxygenating blood; hormones that give us a sense of well-being circulate; joints and muscles are flexed; heart and lungs are toned. And, our outlook on life is lifted; we feel energized by dancing. The goal of meditation is communion with the Spirited Self, and while in our body-mind we can feel this inner Spirit enlivened while dancing, as we hold positive thoughts and caring feelings for ourselves and all.

Bellydance Class Handout Samples Class Handouts Lesson Plan Application Form Sample Class Handouts These are the movements I would expect a beginning dancer to learn over a Beginning One Session lasting 8 weeks. Because people learn in different styles (visual, verbal, kinetic, etc) and at different rates, the movements should be performed as a precise breakdown of the movement is given verbally. Students should then execute the movements as the teacher performs and describes it. Movements should be executed on both sides, and a transition step given to show the student how the weight shifts and how the movement is transferred to the opposite side. Further, simple combinations and routines should be given as homework to ensure the student practices the movements and transitions. Overlaying on movements and movement variations does not start to be taught until Beginning Level II. Always remember to start and end with a 15 minute warm-up session! CLASS HANDOUT SAMPLE BEGINNING MOVEMENTS Level One A word about posture: Nothing , I repeat nothing , weakens a dance performance so much as bad posture. Sunken ribs, sloping shoulders, and sagging abdominals scream " I have no power, no energy and no confidence". Before dancing, open your body- lift and open the rib cage, tuck the pelvis slightly, lift the head and place shoulders properly; open arms.

Begin the reflection time with 20 counts of even in and out breaths. Do not retain your breath. Continue on for a few minutes of reflection on positive thoughts about yourself and others and for world peace. End your session by taking a breath in and out, standing and stretching.
