The Institute for Historical Dance Practice (IHDP) The IHDP was founded in 1992 by Lieven Baert
IHDP is an abbreviation for the " Institute for Historical Dance Practice ". This Institute was founded by Lieven Baert in 1992. Its main objective is to research, preserve and perform social and theatrical dances of Western Europe between 1450 and 1920. We do consider "historical" dance as a serious dance discipline and try to rediscover the old techniques and mould them into a performance for a critical public of today. Therefore we work with professionally trained dancers, musicians and performers who trained hard to understand the style of the different periods. At present several different themes have been researched and developed: The Art of Dancing
15th century Italian and French/Burgundian court dance. Chierlycke Danseryen
16th century court dance.

historical review of the '70s west Greenwich Village dance scene and flagship disco.

B efore the Paradise Garage, the Saint, or, the circuit parties there was 12 WEST Welcome to; 12 West Memories http://home.att.net/~playguitar1/12west.html You are on the main page. R emembering 12 West: It was a classic private membership "after-hours" discotheque party experience that was in New York's Greenwich Village during the mid to late 1970s. It was primarily for NYC's many gay male dance enthusiasts of that era and place who would also bring friends, business partners, family members etc. It was also popular with at least some of the dance music industry personalities of that era. T he private parties that were the actual 12 West experience ran from approximately 1975 through 1980 and include some of the best years disco music had as a form of entertainment in America. There were and are people who will tell you that 12 West had the most appreciative membership of the era and some of the best sound and lighting technology in New York City during it's first years. We, the members, deeply appreciated the better disc jockeys and light show operators, demanding not just the well known music of the day but the imports, indy labels and remix dub discs as well. We enjoyed some of the best synchronized dance-beat turntable mixing and overlay work to be found in the mid 70s over an extremely well installed and well managed sound and light installation. We gave minutes-long standing ovations to the DJ and Light operator teams when the parties finally ended long after the sun had come up the next day.

The first was a public event, "Society Dances and Parlor Amusements in The Great Hall," which took place at the Library of Congress on October 15, 1997. The event, which marked the 100th anniversary of the Library's Jefferson Building, featured late 19th-century dances performed in costume against the backdrop of the Great Hall, with music provided by a wind band using period instruments. The second videotaping session took place in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium on April 14, 1998. The videos from this session feature a pair of dancers demonstrating specific dances or movements from selected manuals in the collection. All time periods are represented in these videos. 76. The Deborah Hay Dance Company - Home
Performance schedules, tour dates, class information, historical background and news about America's foremost organization for classic modern dance (Austin, TX, USA)
    http://www.deborahhay.com/
PHOTOS The Deborah Hay Dance Company Biography Deborah Hay was born in Brooklyn in 1941. Her mother had performed with the corps de ballet at the Roxy Theater and as her first dance teacher she directed her training until Hay was a teenager. Mother and daughter regularly attended Radio City Music Hall, where she most fondly remembers the Rockettes and the orchestra. They went each season to see the New York City Ballet at City Center. By the time she was a teenager she was seeking her own interest in modern rather than classical training. Living in Manhattan by 1960 and studying at the Cunningham studio, she became part a group of experimental artists who were influenced by Merce Cunningham and John Cage, later known as the Judson Dance Theater, one of the most radical and explosive art movements of the twentieth century. In 1964 she danced with the Cunningham Dance Company during a 6-month tour through Europe and Asia. By 1967, Hay had already achieved a prominent status as a young choreographer and her distinctive style began to emerge. She focused on large-scale dance projects involving untrained dancers, thus distancing herself from the performing arena and opening a long period of reflection about how dance is transmitted and who dances. This stage of Hay's career reached into the following decade. In 1970 she left New York and settled in a community in northern Vermont. In this period Hay began to define a rigorous method of performance practice that still continues to inform her work as a student, teacher, and dancer. The most notable achievement of the period is a series of 10 circle dances, which did not include an audience. This encounter, of a powerful concept combined with the exquisitely simple choreography of the ten dances, are collected and described in Moving Through the Universe in Bare Feet (Swallow Press, 1975). Hay's first book on choreography and the first example of her distinctive memory/concept mode of choreographic record, is based on the narratives underlining the process of her dance-making, rather than the technical specifications or notations of their form.
