fads Fashion fads of the day In popular dancing, the Jitterbug made it s appearanceat the beginning of the decade. It was the first dance in two centuries
http://pages.ivillage.com/resa526/media.html
Music/Movies /TV/Fashion/Fads Introduction I wasn't born until 1948, the end of this decade. I am however sure, I was affected by everything that happened during that time, either directly or indirectly.
I know that both of my parents loved music. I can remember some old type of victrola, or phonograph as it was called, that my mother played records on and it seems that it actually had an arm on the side that you had to wind up to play the music.
My dad was a dancing fool. He used to date girls based on their ablity to dance. The popular dance was the "jitterbug", which seems to be making a come back. Anyway, my dad told me that when entering dance contests during the depression, that he'd frequently enter the contest with one of his sister's as his partner. They were great dancers too. I understand that he won frequently. This is no surprise to me since he was good at most things he was interested in doing.
I remember both my dad and my husband's dad loving the old big bands. I remember my mother swooning over Perry Commo and sing "When the Moon hits Your Eyes." I can recalling listening to a soap opera on the radio and I think it is one that is still on T.V.
I didn't talk much when I was a kid for some unknown reason but I could sing the jingle that went along with the commercials on T.V. and radio. "I like to go riding with daddy...And he always takes me of course,... We stop for our gas and our oil ,... at the sign of the flying Red Horse!"...Texico...I think! And who could ever forget Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bill or Bob...oh just can't remember for sure....

Here is a humorous history of such human habits as hairstyling and hotel dining. Dr. M Rajagopalan Fads are fascinating because they flash like fireflies for a fraction of a minute (or a fortnight) and then fade away. There are fads in fashion, food, cars, and movies. Experts have proposed a theory of fads. Fads are interesting in their own ways without any need for theoretical explanations. The most prominent fads occur in the fashions of boys, girls, women and, on rare occasions, men. In boys' hairstyles, the military showed the way. Boys enjoyed having a crew cut. They maintained their hair immaculately like a lawn (both literally and figuratively). They made sure that hair grew no more than an inch just as they did for the grass in the lawn. The outline was rectangular as in the lawn. If only they could insert some tulips in the corner, the picture would be complete. Then came the baldheads, much to the chagrin of the makers of Rogaine. A bald man probably introduced this style. This was embraced warmly by the boys and the men, especially the bald men. They shed all inhibitions and shed the hair.

Ulma "the Duchess" Brown, Savoy Hostess Let's lift the shadow of the past! Let's roll back the pages of time to the cold, cold winter of 1925 - a little more than a quarter of a century ago - the 'good old days' of the flapper and the shiek, the flivver and the silver flask; the roaring twenties - that dizzy era of 'speakeasies', rumrunners, mob violence, grafting 'revenooers' and of bobbed-hair 'it' girls' and smart-suited drug store cowboys. It was the hey-day of flaming youth! Let's, reflect back to the two very young men, Moe Gale and Charles Buchanan, who were about to develop a silvered dream into a golden reality. The very young Gale, fresh out of college, was associated with his dad, Sigmund, in the finance business - but was possessed of a flair for showmanship and an ambition to carve a career in the amusement business which intrigued him. The very young Buchanan was a budding realty man, but too, with a sub-conscious feeling to seek his future in the world of entertainment.
