She was joined by Fund Consultant James Bradburne, and together they brought to a close Fund activities in the Czech Republic. This visit brought to 335 the number of days consultants have spent in Czechoslovakia and The Czech Republic since we first started working there in 1991.

The Czech National Memory Project is a project of the Board of the Foundation/Fund for Czech Museums and Galleries that The Fund was instrumental in starting in the early 1990s and has worked with consistently in the intervening years. This Board has provided the vehicle for joint activities for these museums and a way to include international members who can be helpful to the museums of the Republic. Over the years, the Foundation/Fund has undertaken various notable projects including a statistical study of the impact of the economic benefits of culture in the Prague Region. www.total-absurdity-cz.org

... Mediterranean Guide Czech Republic: Overview The Czech Republic is situated approximately in the geographical center of Europe and has an area of 78,866 sq. km. It is a landlocked country 326 km from the Baltic and 322 km from the Adriatic. It shares borders with Germany (810 km), Poland (762 km), Austria (466 km) and Slovakia (265 km). The highest point of elevation is the peak of Mt. Snezka (1,602 m above sea level) and the lowest point of elevation is near Hoensko where the River Labe leaves Czech territory (117 m above sea level).
Thanks to its long and rich history and the diversity of its natural environment, the Czech Republic is a great attraction for the millions of guests who visit it every year. The jewel in the Czech crown is Prague with its gorgeous and rich architectural styles but the country is also dotted with numerous historical city centers, castles and chateaux. Outside the urban areas, deep woods, rock formations and limestone caves are among the many interesting sites the Czech Republic has to offer.
Since the Czech lands lie exactly on the border of Eastern and Western Europe, the country has come under the influence of several different cultures throughout the course of history. Each of these influences indelibly marked the face of the country with architectural or artistic monuments. This accounts for the uniquely rich cultural heritage of this relatively small country. In addition, the Czech lands are extraordinary in Europe due to the fact that they are practically untouched by the large-scale destruction of war.

Students earn 16 semester credits on a 15-week experience designed to encourage a global awareness that enables people to live and act in an interdependent world. Groups of seven to 25 students are lead by one or two academic directors. Perhaps nowhere in Europe have artists been as strong a catalyst for social change as in Prague — a lively and architecturally stunning city. This aesthetically vital setting forms a living laboratory for your study of the interaction between historical forces and the arts in Czech society. Your program examines the history of the Czech nation, focusing on the key issues of the twentieth century, including the formation of the Czechoslovak republic, its political and social division during World War II, the influence of Communism, and the post-revolutionary period, in which poets and artists assumed the reins of power. You benefit from lectures by professors from Charles University and affiliated institutions such as the National Film Archive, as well as noted artists, writers, musicians, and politicians. Excursions to Bohemia, Moravia, Austria, and significant historic sites near Prague provide further insight into the extraordinary significance of artistic expression in this profoundly changing region.
