SCIC AND THE ENLARGEMENT CZECH REPUBLIC Czech Language Czech language Origin and History of the Czech Language Czech, along with Slovak, Polish, and High and Low Sorbian, belongs to the western group of Slavic languages. More loosely it is related to the languages forming the east Slavic group (Ukrainian, Belorussian, and Russian) and the southern Slavic group (Bulgarian, Macedonian, Slovene, Serbian, and Croatian). As a Slavic language Czech belongs to the eastern, or satem, division of Indo-European. Czech separated itself from the other Slavic languages by a number of changes, most of which took place in the 10th through 16th centuries. By the end of the 15th century Czech had virtually lost the dual number and two of the Slavic past tenses (the aorist and imperfect); on the other hand, the role of the verbal aspect had grown more significant and the number of declensions had increased. For recent grammars and dictionaries see sections dealing with contemporary Czech grammar and vocabulary http://www.czech-language.cz/overview/origin.html

THE PHRASEBASE APPROACH
Many studies show that in most countries, native-speakers only tend to use about unique words and phrases on a daily basis. The question then becomes... which words and phrases? Phrasebase answers this question.
In 1997, I was sent to Japan on an overseas assignment while working for a major software corporation. With a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, I was never required to take a single class in a language other than English. And having been raised in Middle America, I never had any exposure to foreign languages.
Yet, I found myself suddenly living and working in Tokyo, Japan, and confronted head on with a language barrier that hindered my most simple, routine and everyday activities.
Jeff Hock in Tokyo, Japan 1997 Seizing the challenge as an opportunity, I started carrying a notebook and pen everywhere I went. Each day when faced with the slightest problem trying to convey an idea or communicate a thought, I simply wrote it down.
Then right there on the spot, I entered the phrase and had a friend help me enter the corresponding Japanese equivalence. Without knowing it at the time, I was actually learning to write in

Introduction Czech is the offical language of the Czech Republic, spoken by virtually the entire population of 10 million people. It is closely related to Slovak, spoken in Slovakia, the two languages in fact being mutually intelligible. Czech is a Slavic language written in the Roman script. The foundations of the alphabet were laid by the great religious reformer Jan Hus, in the early 15th century. The letters q, w , and x are missing, while c is pronounced ts e.g., cena

"...an invaluable resource for anyone learning or reviewing Czech." - Dr. Susan Kresin, Dept. of Slavic Languages and Literature, UCLA Take a look at some of the content: Czech History and Czech Grammar WinCzEduc is the joint effort of language, literature and computer science teachers at  Masaryk University´s Faculty of Liberal Arts and Faculty of Education in Brno, Czech Republic.  Various linguists within the university system and at other institutions, experts in the field of language learning resources and IT analysts cooperated in completion of this project. The software has several aspects which appeal to beginners (noun models and their declensions, verb classes and their conjugations, and an extensive grammar approach), but is not a pure beginners' program in a traditional sense. Software users in the Czech Republic and abroad have included private language schools, primary and secondary schools, universities (University of London and University of Baltimore), private individuals, firms and Czech historical and cultural societies as well as professional organizations.  These have included nationals from North and South America, Europe, Australia, the UK and Asia. http://mujweb.cz/www/winczeduc/overview.html
WinCzEduc : CD-Rom Home Overview Czech History Czech Grammar ... Links Created by teachers at Masaryk University´s Faculty of Liberal Arts and Faculty of Education in Brno, Czech Republic, WinCzEduc grew out of a passion for Czech language and history and utilizes the latest knowledge in Computer Assisted Education on the medium of CD ROM. With language study at schools, at conferences and in publications around the world stressing the dynamic approach of new multi-media products, this Czech software program gives both the language and culture exposure which other lesser studied languages do not enjoy as of now. The original idea of the project was to take the leading events of Czech history as a vehicle for language study on the novel medium of CD ROM, while respecting traditional aspects of language study such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. In short, grammar fundamentals (eg, noun declension models, verb classes) appeal to beginners while more difficult texts and finer points of grammar better appeal to more advanced students, offering an effective program to a wide range of users. All levels have enjoyed the historical, cultural aspects. Thus, the multimedia software uses 18 texts of Czech history as the basis for combining its other features. These texts stretch from Lesson 1 - The Migration of Peoples and Lesson 2- The Great Moravian Empire to Lesson 17 - The Velvet Revolution and Lesson 18 - The 1993 Velvet Divorce of Czechoslovakia.
