Michigan Story Festival Seeks Recipies with Stories
The Michigan Story Festival is looking for “Recipes with Stories to Share” at the 2nd Annual Michigan Story Festival to be held at CMU on Oct. 22 and 23.
Wrap up your favorite recipe with the story behind it. Share your tears, your laughter and your memories along with a tasty morsel. The top three recipe and story combinations will receive $200, $100 and $50 respectively. Honorable mentions will receive $25. All winners will receive all-festival passes to the Michigan Story Festival.
Stories should be 100 to 250 typewritten words and include a title. Previously unpublished recipes and stories will be judged on clarity, effectiveness of the narrative, and the strength of the connection between the recipe and story. Recipes will be prepared and tasted as part of the judging process.
Submit your entry via e-mail to ccfa@cmich.edu or mail your entry to Michigan Story Festival Recipes to Share, CMU, College of Communications and Fine Arts, 129 Moore Hall. Deadline for entries is June 11. Make sure your entry includes your name, address, phone number and an e-mail address if available.
Selected submissions will be exhibited at the 2nd Annual Michigan Story Festival. All stories and recipes become the property of the Michigan Story Festival. Some submissions may be published. By submitting an entry, you are giving CMU permission to edit and publish it.

California Library Literacy Services , asked us to develop a new logo and website for the wide-ranging division, which comprises four major programs: Adult Literacy Services, Families for Literacy, Mobile Library Literacy Services, and English Language Learning Intensive. The website features profiles of all four programs and offers ways for users to find library literacy services close to them as well as getting involved as either learners or volunteers.

Communities that want to set a vision for the future, discover and use new resources for community and economic development, and build public/private coalitions to further their goals can acquire assistance from Partners for Livable Communities (PLC). PLC, a non-profit leadership organization works to improve the livability of communities by promoting the quality of life, economic development and social equity. Founded in 1977, PLC assists more than 1,200 individuals and groups through technical assistance, leadership training, workshops, research and publications. Nancy Kellogg and Al Huie Congratulations to the four teachers who have met the rigorous standards required to be a National Board Certified Teacher. Imperial County Board of Education recognized Al Huie, Nancy Kellogg, Neil MacGaffey and Sonia Rivera at their December 17 th Board Meeting with a special reception. Administrators and teachers from their school sites and districts were present to celebrate the achievement with the honored teachers. Terry Clark, who has coached the candidates through the requirements, was present as well as another recent recipient of the certification from San Diego county, family and friends of the recipients, ICOE supporters, and Dana Arellano of Congressmen Bob Filner’s office. Ms. Clark noted that “As teachers earn the certification the focus is on students and what teachers can do to improve student learning.”

The Praxis Project Learning Circle Series 2004
The Praxis Project Learning Circle Series are interactive gatherings that engage experiential learning, popular education, and dialogue to support policy advocacy and organizing for health justice. Praxis will offer a series of web teleconference and residential training sessions where participants will receive support from experienced organizers, develop action plans to support their work, forge networks, and build skills. A limited number of scholarships (including travel) are available for the residential trainings. These series are made possible through support from TTAC, the Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
