Classroom Lesson Plans Here are links to some lesson plans I've developed for use in my Creative Drama Classroom (and a few games and lessons from others as well). All of these lessons have been tested and proven successful in the classroom. Let me know if they work for you. Have a great lesson plan you'd like to share? Send it to me! I'll try it out and post it here. I'm hoping eventually to have a large library of proven lesson plans here.
Email me! To help you find just what you need, I've sorted these lessons in a few different ways: By AGE LEVEL By LESSON TYPE By cross-curricular CONTENT Lesson Plans Sorted by Age Level Most of these lesson plans work with a large age range (with appropriate adjustments in level of sophistication), but I've listed them here in approximate order, from youngest to oldest. These lessons are presented with fairly specific instructions, for the most part, but should not be understood as carved-in-stone methods. Every teacher will have her or his individual slant on these activities.

Unit Description As part of their studies of modern American history, students will use various news sites to gather information on current events.
    Objectives Students will:
    • Identify important issues that persist in modern American history.
    • See the connection between historical issues and current events.

Materials and Resources In developing our lessons and activities, we made some assumptions about the hardware and software that would be available in the classroom for teachers who visit the LETSNet Website. We assume that teachers using our Internet-based lessons or activities have a computer with the necessary hardware components (mouse, keyboard, and monitor) as well as a World Wide Web browser. In the section below, we specify any "special" hardware or software requirements for a lesson or activity (in addition to those described above) and the level of Internet access required to do the activity.

LESSON PLAN ONE: Question Of The Day/Week
    CURRICULUM AREA:
Social studies or current events (could be adapted to any curricular area using content-specific material as the question of the day/week).
    TEACHING LEVEL:
    Grades 6-8
    PREVIEW OF MAIN IDEA:
Although there are very few spelling rules that will provide students with concrete spelling direction, learning spelling rules which apply 80% of the time is a valid activity that students should experience. By choosing a current event or content specific question each day/week, and a spelling rule that students need to work on, the teacher will motivate students to pay attention to both. Students will use an inductive reasoning strategy to learn/review a spelling rule and to earn extra credit points.
    MATERIALS:
Student handout with spelling rule for the day/week Current events/content specific question Spelling Rules sheet
    OBJECTIVES:
    Students are expected to...
    • Learn/review specific spelling rules Recognize specific examples of spelling rules
    • Generate other examples of the spelling rules
    • Apply spelling rules when using new words in writing
    • Earn extra credit points for current events or content-specific awareness
    SUGGESTIONS FOR TEACHING THE LESSON
    BEFORE THE LESSON:
From students' writing, the teacher diagnoses the kinds of spelling errors that students are making. The teacher then identifies one specific kind of spelling error that students are making and the spelling rule which addresses this type of error (see Spelling Rules sheet). For example, a common spelling error for students in grades 6-8 is forgetting to keep the l when adding -ly to a word ending in l. Therefore, the following rule would need to be taught/reviewed: Keep both l's when adding -ly to a word ending in l. The following words are examples of this rule:
