"Negro sculptures provide a striking proof of the possibilities of an anti-idealistic art. Inspired by religious spirit, they offer a varied and precise representation of great principles and universal ideas. How can one deny the name of art to a creative process which produces individualistic representations of universal ideas, each time in a different way. It is the reverse of Greek art, which started from the individual and attempt to suggest an ideal type."
Juan Gris - Cubist Painter in "Action" no 3, April 1920 "The syntax of cubism has revolutionized the pictorial image. Its vocabulary of plastic signs has rshaped the modern vision, changed the focus of modern design, of modern poster art. Cubism became the formative instrument of our way of seeing, just as five hundred years ago the invention of scientific perspective formed the Renaissance way of seeing."

Viewing video data along the X-T axis and Y-T axis has appeared in several forms in the literature. The main distinctions this work has is that the cut plane (or cut sphere) used to view the video data can be moved to any angle and position in real-time. This provides an opportunity to interactively explore the video cube from many different angles to get both aesthetically interesting static images as well as motion effects. Currently, a single cut plane or a cut sphere is supported. With the cut plane investigation is like being able to move a window around the video cube to see all sides as well as inside the video data; hence the name video cubism. With the cut sphere, unusual images are seen as a curvature cuts through time and space.

PURISM AND cubism. The aspect of cubism that most influenced Le Corbusiers architecture was that of the fourth dimension, movement.
http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~abyrge/Le_Corbusier/Paragraphs/cubism.html
PURISM AND CUBISM In ÔLe PurismeÕ in 1921, Ozenfant and Jeanneret wanted to find a universal language that would appeal to the emotions: 1. Primary sensations determined in all human beings by the simple play of forms and primary colors. Example: If I show to everyone on Earth a Frenchman, a Negro, a Laplander, a sphere in the form of a billiard ball (one of the most perfect human materializations of the sphere), I release in each of these individuals an identical sensation inherent in the spherical form: This is the constant primary sensation. 2. There are secondary associations, varying with the individual because they depend upon his cultural or hereditary capital . . . Primary sensations constitute the bases of the plastic language: these are the fixed words of the plastic language . . . it does not seem necessary to expatiate at length on this elementary truth that anything of universal value is worth more than anything of merely individual value. It is the condemnation of "individualistic" art to the benefit of the "universal" art. With Perrets influence, Le Corbusier adopted the rejection of ornamentation, a typical Classical element. He preferred instead the pure planar form of a white wall that rejoiced in the elegance of its simplicity. Le Corbusier felt that ornamentation was used to hide poor quality of construction and detracted from the buildings simple form. He was dissatisfied with all previous styles, so he assimilated the aspects he liked of different styles that conformed to his personal theories, specifically his adoration for simple geometry, the form he found most appropriate for the machine age.

The Cubism art movement was a style of painting that occured in Europe from 1907 to 1920. Cubist style emphasized the flat, two-dimensional surface of the picture plane, rejecting the traditional techniques of perspective, foreshortening and modeling; Cubist artists refute time-honoured theories of art as the imitation of nature: they are not bound to copying form, texture, colour, and space. Instead, they presented a new reality in paintings that depicted radically fragmented objects, whose several sides were seen simultaneously. Analytical Cubism
The Meaning of Cubism
a) What was the subject matter of Cubism?

Cubists rejected such subject as remote and often incomprehensible and insisted instead that art should deal with the real everyday world: natural or man-made and with a common, everyday human experience. Thus, the aim is to celebrate the simple pleasures and satisfactions of the everyday life and the ordinary daily environment of the artists and his audience.
Cubism had the repertoire of basic motifs, established by the Impressionists and Post- Impressionism * notably simple figure subjects, landscape and townscape, and still life, but the dominant subject of Cubism is still-life. The source material of Cubist still-life seems to fall into three broad principal categories: the pleasures of the cafe drinking, smoking, cards, newspapers; the pleasures of the table, almost always represented by the fruit course; and, perhaps, most important of all, the pleasures of music. (the violin, the Spanish guitar, the mandolin, the clarinet.) These categories, it should be said, tend to overlap and interweave and, of course, Cubist still-life contains references to many other aspects of life.
b) Why is Cubism often described as "painting about painting"?

Cubism
Cubism was an avant-garde art movement that revolutionised European painting and sculpture in the early 20th century . The essence of cubism is that instead of viewing subjects from a single, fixed angle, the artist breaks them up into a multiplicity of facets, so that several different aspects/faces of the subject can be seen simultaneously. It began in 1906 with two artists Georges Braque (French) and Pablo Picasso (Spanish) who were living in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France . They met in 1907, and worked together closely until World War I broke out in 1914. The term "cubism" was first used by the French art critic Louis Vauxcelles in 1908. ("bizarre cubiques" = cubes). Afterwards the term was in wide use but the two creators of cubism refrained from using it for a long time.

Picasso and Braque were great innovative artists in search of new ways to express space and form in painting. They were influenced by Paul Cezanne , African tribal art and Iberian sculpture. First they worked alongside one another (1906-1909 pre-cubism) and then started to work hand in hand to further advance their concepts into what was later termed
