The Hinckley Double Posted by: Admin on Monday, June 07, 2004 - 06:59 AM GMT 635 Reads According to an Apr. 9, 1981 New York Times article A Federal judge yesterday ordered a psychiatric examination for the 22-year-old unemployed man who was charged in Manhattan Tuesday with threatening to kill President Reagan. Other authorities said the man had indicated he was motivated to commit violence by a "prophetic dream." The accused man, Edward M. Richardson of Drexel Hill, Pa., told of the dream in a letter that was delivered to Jodie Foster, the actress, at Yale University last Monday, Federal law enforcement officers said. In the letter, Mr. Richardson indicated that in the dream he had received instructions to kill the President from John W. Hinckley, Jr., the 25-year-old man who has been charged with attempting to assissinate Mr. Reagan in Washington on March 30. [...] A number of parallels between Mr. Richardson and Mr. Hinckley have emerged. Both had apparently been captivated by the 18-year-old Miss Foster, the star of such films as "Taxi Driver" and "Carny." Both stayed briefly at the Park Plaza Hotel in New Haven and sent letters to Miss Foster. Both had recently lived in Lakewood, Colo., just outside Denver. Both had been unable to find work and appeared to be drifiting around the country with little purpose in the weeks before they allegedly took action against the President. | |
