Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation
The POST Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) is designed to improve the effectiveness of individual investigators through training. The ICI is structured to include a Core Course, eleven Foundation Specialty Courses, and related electives. The Core Course includes instruction in tasks performed by all investigators, regardless of assignment, while Foundation Specialty Courses include instruction on the different specialty assignments that detectives find themselves. Electives provide instruction which support the specialty chosen. The ICI program will be informative to all investigators regardless of experience level. All ICI courses use the adult experience-based techniques of learning. Participants rely on their experience and the experience of others for learning. Learners are challenged through the use of realistic and practical applications. Even the most experienced investigators can learn from their association with others in the class. ICI courses are open to all full-time investigators or qualified uniformed officers with one year experience conducting follow-up investigations. ICI only requires a firm commitment from both students and their respective agencies that all courses will be completed.

THE PROGRAM
The Criminal Justice Technology Program, located at Newberry High School, is a magnet program for Alachua County. Criminal Justice Technology is designed to be a first step in preparing students for a wide variety of careers in the criminal justice field. Students successfully completing the program will receive a high school diploma and will be prepared for entry into either a community college or university. The Criminal Justice Technology Program at Newberry High School is taught in partnership with the Criminal Justice Program at Santa Fe Community College. An articulation agreement between the two institutions enables students who complete the Criminal Justice Technology Program at the high school to enter the Criminal Justice Program at the community college and have certain required courses waived. Students completing the program at Santa Fe Community College will be prepared to enter the police academy, a university, or a career in the field of criminal justice. Students in the Criminal Justice Technology Program will take all normal course requirements for graduation as well as special courses dealing with government, law, and law enforcement. Students will have contact with personnel from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the local court system. In addition to classroom work, students will receive practical experience through participation in an Alachua County Sheriff's Explorer's Club.

Undergraduate Education Graduate Education Faculty ... Criminal Justice Links
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this transfer guide is to show students that their entire Associate of Art (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with a major in Criminal Justice will transfer to UH/D. There is no need to leave your program before completion for fear of losing hours . All you need to do is pay attention to the materials presented below in order to transfer all of your credit hours. This process is mandated by the Texas Legislature to insure the transferability of your hours.
WHICH DEGREE ARE YOU PURSUING?
Many students do not know into which Associate degree program they are enrolled. The college transfer degrees are the Associate of Arts (A.A.) or the Associate of Science (A.S.). Non-college transfer degrees include the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and certificate programs. If you don't know which one you are in, then find out. The particular program you are in can make a big difference in the transferability of your hours to a four-year school.

Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Degree Requirements The Criminal Justice curriculum leads to a bachelor of arts degree and requires a minimum of 120 credits. To earn the degree, students must complete all of the degree requirements of the University described in the Degree Requirements section of the Undergraduate Catalog The program for Criminal Justice consists of 30 credits of 3000/4000-level course work. Students who begin FAU as freshmen are required to take CCJ 2002 as a prerequisite to 3000/4000-level criminal justice courses. In this case, CCJ 2002 will apply toward the 30-credit requirement. The remaining 30 credits may be taken from electives throughout the various colleges in the University. No more than 42 credits in the major may be counted toward the degree. Additionally, the last 30 upper division credits (3000/4000-level courses) must be earned in residence at FAU. To earn a bachelor of arts degree from a state university in Florida, students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language at the college level. Earning college credit at the Language II level (courses such as FRE 1121 or SPN 1121) satisfies this mandate. Students meeting the FAU foreign language admission requirement with two years of high school language have not satisfied the graduation requirement. Students must demonstrate additional proficiency either by earning Language II-level college credit or by satisfying the requirement through other means, such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam.

Transfer Course Equivalencies
Updated May 2004 Following is a list of current course equivalents between Western Nebraska Community College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; credit at NU is stated in semester hours. If a specific UNL course equivalent has not been identified, other notations are used.
  • GNCR; course transfers as UNL general hours
  • SUBJ; course transfers as subject area hours (e.g., ENGLXXX, MATHXXX) not assigned to a specific course
  • NDAP; excess transfer course hours which are included in the equivalency and generally not degree-applicable
  • VCRD; vocational/skill development course: limited application to a UNL degree
  • HSCR; course is high school or remedial level; hours and course do not transfer
Contact your NU college to determine whether a course will be applicable to your intended major. While every effort is made to keep this list up to date, courses may be added or deleted at any time. Courses not listed may also be transferable and degree applicable. Equivalencies are date-specific and dependent upon when the course was taken. Equivalencies no longer in effect are not included in the list, but will be included in NU's evaluation of transfer credit if taken during the period the equivalency was in effect. In some cases, two or more transfer courses may be needed to achieve the equivalent of a UNL course. For an official evaluation of transfer credits, students are encouraged to apply for admission to NU, and submit complete high school and post-secondary transcripts. Begin your search for courses by selecting one of Western Nebraska Community College's subject abbreviations:

"Introduction to Forensic Science," to be offered for the first time this fall, will introduce students to the subject with topics ranging from forensic crime scene techniques, firearms, entomology, blood chemistry, pathology, toxicology, anthropology, botany, trace evidence, court room involvement and new trends in forensic investigations. In addition, students will have opportunities to meet with professionals in the field, including crime laboratory investigators from local, state and federal agencies, and to review cases solved by professional crime scene investigators. The course, offered jointly by Purdue's School of Health Sciences and Department of Entomology, is the first of a three-course program designed to give students a comprehensive overview of the field. Designed by Ralph Williams, professor of entomology, and David Tate, director of clinical and continuing education in Purdue's School of Health Sciences, the course aims to satisfy students' curiosity about crime investigations while providing information on the real-life science and technology used to solve crimes. "With the popularity of such TV shows as 'CSI,' 'The New Detectives Series,' and 'Justice Files,' students have shown great interest in getting information on the topic of forensic science," Tate says. "We wanted to respond to students' needs and interests, and at the same time expose students to the varied, and sometimes rigorous, science used behind the scenes."

Organization, Recruitment, and Training of Police
In 1989 Singapore's police force had 7,000 constables and inspectors, 3,000 national service conscripts, and 2,000 volunteers. The commissioner of police was responsible for law enforcement in all civil jurisdictions of the country. He was assisted by deputy commissioners for administration, civil defense, operations, and planning (see fig. 16 The three other deputy commissioners were responsible for administration, planning, and civil defense. The deputy commissioner for administration managed recruitment, training, and logistics and was responsible for the National Police Cadet Corps, a student organization that in the late 1980s had more than 20,000 members and units in 129 secondary schools located throughout Singapore. The deputy commissioner for planning was responsible for research and force development and proposed plans for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment and the introduction of new law enforcement tactics to improve the efficiency of the police force. The deputy commissioner for civil defense was in charge of civil defense planning and civil defense organizations (see Civil Defense , this ch.).
