Members meet monthly to discuss neighborhood concerns and incidents. Neighborhood Watch members are the "eyes and ears" of the police department. New! The East Huron River Neighborhood Watch Group is active! see notice for current info on this group Child ID Operation Identification The Belleville Police Department encourages all residents to mark items of value with their ID number. The best number to use for this purpose is a household member's driver's license number. Using the drivers license number allows police officers to more easilly trace recovered items back to their owners. Use of Social Security numbers for purposes of marking valuables is not encouraged because the number is not easilly traceable since Social Security records are confidential. The department has engravers available on loan for anyone interested interested in marking their items of value. The Department also has free window stickers that advertise the fact that items of value have been marked. Some of the topics we cover are personal safety either at home, while driving, while shopping, while on vacation, or while at the ATM machine. All of these programs can be presented either as a single presentation or individually, depending on your needs and time constraints. Again, these presentations are free to our residents. All you need to do is decide what topic you are interested in, contact the Police Department and arrange an appointment at a time and place of your choosing. Contact our office and let us provide whatever topic you need. Stranger Danger: (972) 874-3357 This is one of our more popular programs. The Police Department spends many hours each year in our elementary schools teaching this program to our younger residents. We also go to day care centers, the YMCA, churches, or other organizations that request this training for a group of children. The program teaches children who strangers are and how to behave if approached by a stranger. Call to make an appointment.

Neighborhood Watch
This is the "heart" of the crime prevention program. Through involvement in Neighborhood Watch, citizens learn how they can better prevent becoming victims of crime and how to access the police when assistance is needed. After an initial meeting (preferably within the neighborhood) at which specific neighborhood problems and policies are discussed, the members are encouraged to implement both the physical security measures and changes in attitude which were suggested during the training. The services that are requested through Neighborhood Watch range from basic questions about home security to the implementation of organized, radio equipped citizen patrol within the neighborhood. The Neighborhood Watch group also will be introduced to the Community Police officer who is assigned to work in their neighborhood. The Community officer works together with the Neighborhood Watch group to address not only crime but also quality of life issues in the community.

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION:
Neighborhood watch, Block watch, town watchwhatever the title, this initiative is one of the most effective ways to prevent crime, attend to home and personal security, address the safety of our children and the elderly and reduce fear and isolation. Civic involvement, collaborative problem-solving and mutual commitment have helped cities and neighborhoods reduce crime by significant numbers. In early 1972, the National Sheriffs' Association created a model program for today’s neighborhood watch. At that time, the Chiefs were searching for ways to attack the increasing burglary rate across the country. It was recognized that communities able to secure the assistance of their residents in observing, recognizing and reporting suspicious or criminal activities were better able to keep the burglary rate down and reduce other crimes. Today, neighborhood watch is the largest single organized crime prevention project in the nation. We know that neighborhood watch forges strong bonds among residents. Watch groups create a sense of community and pride by forming a unified group of citizens dedicated to improving their neighborhood. Partnering with law enforcement, citizens become their eyes and ears. These groups also serve as an empowering outlet for victims of crime. It helps give victims a greater sense of controlensuring that what happened to them will be less likely to happen to others. A neighborhood watch program can also be a springboard for many other efforts to address the causes of crime, reduce crime and improve neighborhood conditions including youth recreation, child care, economic development, senior citizen activities, affordable housing and community beautification.

Neighborhood Watch Program
The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort that has been in existence for more than thirty years in cities and counties across America. It provides a unique infrastructure that brings together local officials, law enforcement and citizens to protect our communities. Around the country, neighbors for three decades have banded together to create Neighborhood Watch programs. They understand that the active participation of neighborhood residents is a critical element in community safety - not through vigilantism, but simply through a willingness to look out for suspicious activity in their neighborhood, and report that activity to law enforcement and to each other. In doing so, residents take a major step toward reclaiming high-crime neighborhoods, as well as making people throughout a community feel more secure and less fearful. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, the need for strengthening and securing our communities has become even more critical, and Neighborhood Watch groups have taken on greater significance. In addition to serving a crime prevention role, Neighborhood Watch can also be used as the basis for bringing neighborhood residents together to focus on disaster preparedness as well as terrorism awareness; to focus on evacuation drills and exercises; and even to organize group training, such as the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

How Neighborhood Watch Works
Neighborhood Watch is a Community Policing partnership program that rapidly expanded nation-wide in the 1970’s to combat significant increases in residential crime.  This program depends on citizen involvement to prevent and discourage crime and reduce fear by taking certain home, property, and personal self-protection precautions, really getting to know and look out for neighbors, and reporting crimes and suspicious activities to the police.   Neighborhood Watch in the city of El Paso is an El Paso Police Department program and the department determines its policy.  Today, we have over 600 such programs, and this concept has also expanded to schools, apartments, parks, and businesses. Getting Started Visit your block neighbors with this page or have a get-together to promote it, stimulate interest and enlist helpers, and gather program support from them.  Call the phone number below for police information and assistance on your questions.  Once you have the active support from half of your block, designate a Block Captain and Co-Captain to serve as block coordinators and liaisons with the police for information and educational literature.  Establish a means to keep all your residents informed of these communications.

The best defense against neighborhood crime is a good neighbor. Who else knows the comings and goings of people in a neighborhood better than an alert and perceptive neighbor, and who can spot suspicious persons more readily? The Walnut Creek Police Department has an ongoing program to work with neighborhoods to formalize and develop those relationships called "Neighborhood Watch." Setting up your own group is a simple, straightforward process, and some might even say, fun. Step 1: See if there is an already established group Check the Existing Groups now, and see if your street is there. Step 2: Arrange for a meeting Call, or E-Mail the Crime Prevention Coordinator, Margee Bunch at (925) 943-5885. Or, you can fill in and submit the form below. The purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to develop a network of community support. Through community awareness and involvement, neighbors can work together with the Police Department to reduce criminal opportunities in their area. Neighborhood watch is also able to assist in other areas. A strong sense of community results in an active neighborhood, which is of itself, the essential element of crime prevention. Through Neighborhood Watch, neighbors can identify other community concerns, determine available resources, and coordinate activities to meet these needs. In communities where Neighborhood Watch groups have been established, residential burglaries have been significantly reduced. Several smaller communities within Saginaw have been able to eliminate their burglaries altogether. How Neighborhood Watch Works Neighborhood Watch is a group of neighbors that have agreed to watch each other's property and report suspicious or criminal activity to the Police Department. The informed and involved citizen is the best deterrent to crime, residential or otherwise. Citizens have the capacity for observation identification, and testifying against would-be criminals. NO CITIZEN PARTICIPATING IN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH IS ASKED TO TAKE ANY RISK! DO NOT TRY TO STOP OR APPREHEND ANY SUSPECT(S)... REPORT ALL SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT (911) Through Neighborhood Watch, citizens learn various precautions and strategies that can be taken to ensure individual, family, and neighborhood security.

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program operated by residents of the City of Los Banos, with the support of the police department. Its purpose is to create an alert citizenry by teaching residents simple crime prevention measures, and by providing both general and specific information concerning crime in each neighborhood.
Neighborhood Watch encourages residents to familiarize themselves with the activities of their neighborhood by, for example, knowing who works during the day, which automobiles belong where, recognizing people who belong in the area, and noting those who do not. This basic knowledge, together with a few precautions, will prevent many crimes in our city.
Neighborhood Watch Meetings are on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm. The meeting locations very from the Police Annex to City Hall.

HSUS In 1972, amid concerns about the growing U.S. crime rate, Americans latched on to a novel way to deal with the 8.2 million burglaries, arsons, assaults and other reported crimes that year (up from 6.9 million cases just five years earlier): Across the nation, friends and neighbors formed Neighborhood Crime Watches in conjunction with their local authorities. More than 30 years later, the results speak for themselves. In a January 1998 article in Sheriff magazine, published by the National Sheriffs' Association, the association's director of crime prevention noted: "From its inception, the growth and impact of Neighborhood Watch has exceeded all expectations. It is now one of the most widely-known crime prevention programs in history, reaching thousands of people in urban, suburban, and rural areas...The program's popularity among the law enforcement community and the public at large remains at a high level, attesting to the effectiveness of this crime prevention initiative. In the very next paragraph, the article then mentioned that the "longevity of Neighborhood Watch is attributed to the fact that the program is flexible to suit the needs of each community, and can be adapted to any environment (e.g., Marina Watch, Campus Watch, Ranch Watch, Church Watch)."

  • Any community resident can join young and old, single or married, renter or home owner.
  • A few concerned residents with assistance from the Lawton Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit can spearhead the effort to organize a Watch.
  • Members learn how to make their homes more secure, watch out for each other and the neighborhood, and report activities that raise their suspicions to the police.
  • You can form a Watch group around any geographical unit; a block, apartment complex, park, business area, public housing complex, or office.
  • Watch groups are NOT vigilantes. They are extra eyes and ears for reporting crime and helping neighbors. Neighborhood Watch helps build pride and serves as a springboard for efforts that address community concerns such as recreation for youth, child care, and affordable housing.
