T his part of the site came into being through the enthusiasm of many people all over the world who wish they could have proper tails. Well- now they can!
T hese tails are made from insanely durable closed-cell foam with acrylic and modacrylic deep-pile fur covering them. They can be sat on and slammed in doors without damaging them (you may yelp or yowl for effect if you like), and are also mobile and self-supporting, meaning that wuf tails can be wagged pretty easily and cat tails can swish elegantly given a certain sort of walking.
T hese tails are made to attach to a belt for a good strong mounting that's easily removable. They are entirely hand-sewn because the stitch for constructing them is not one that can be handled by a regular sewing machine.
T hey're $50, which includes shipping. Please inquire about availability.

black white blue green red Class Act Fabrics Fabric for couture sewing, re-enactor clothing, period appropriate garb, doll fashions and just nice clothes. Welcome . We have for your sewing pleasure: silk, linen, wool, velvets and other neat stuff. When I opened my fabric store fifteen years ago, I was simply a single mother and "fabriholic" who had to make a living. Then I was bitten by the dread costume bug...species, historic...and nothing has been simple since. Our fabric is current couture fabric. Most is classic and is also appropriate for historic costuming , reenactors and SCA garb. However, sometimes a fabulous "modern" fabric is irresistible and that comes to live here too. Some fabrics..i.e..silks, extrafine worsted wool, fine cottons...are excellent doll costuming fabrics for doll collectors, doll artists and doll owners. I work at finding fabrics that fit antique and reproduction dolls. They are excellent for modern dolls, too.
We have coated steel boning for corset stays and living history costumes. The boning sizes are in half inch increments. And I have a great white cotton boning casing for both 6mm (1/4") and 1/2" bones.

Sewing hints and tips
- Use washable material for doll bodies and costumes and polyester fiber fill so they can go in the washer and dryer.
- After turning pieces right side out I use the eraser end of a new pencil to get crisp corners.
- I like to use a contrasting fabric for one side of the doll ears. - When making for a baby I use bright colored bodies. It is an ideal first stuffed toy as babies can grab all appendages and the ears. And if made washable it can go right in with the baby's laundry as often as needed. - Pattern pieces include ¼” seam allowance even though that is not drawn on the pattern pieces. - Choose contrasting material for bodies and clothing – for the sake of interest.

Animated Costuming
In some productions, very elaborate costumes can be assembled that have animated or moving parts. For example, in the 1994 WPI Masque production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream , an animated donkey head for the character of Bottom was created. The head features moving eyelids and ears. To control the head, a radio control scheme was used. Small servo motors inside of the head were connected to the various pieces of the costume. A radio controlled receiver and servo controller inside of the head was used to drive the motors. A hand-held remote control unit was used by an off-stage puppeteer to control the motions of the head while the actor performed her lines. Figure 8.2: The skeleton of an animated costume head, designed and built for the 1994 WPI Masque production of A Midsummer Night's Dream Many variations on the theme can be implemented. Ideally, a complicated effect like this is conceived and constructed in a collaborative effort. For the best results, a balance between artistic and technical talents should be struck. An animated costume is of no use if it doesn't look good, and the animation mechanisms will not work will if they are not designed and constructed well. Figure shows the skeleton and inside of the aforementioned costume head.

158. Emma Adaptations, &c. ~ Costuming The Emmas...
costuming the Emmas By Kali Pappas. In general, the costuming here is very, very good, even though one may have to look closer to realize it.
http://www.strangegirl.org/emmapages/costume.html
Emma 1 Emma 2 Emma 3 Back to the main Emma page... Costuming the Emmas... By Kali Pappas Being handsome, clever, and rich, it's plain that Jane Austen's Emma Woodhouse would have been well-dressed. But how well, we've all asked, has the film and television industry dressed the Emma adaptations? I'm going to attempt a novice costumer's study of the female wardrobes produced for the1996 film version starring Gwyneth Paltrow and costumed by Ruth Myers ( ) and the 1996/97 television adaptation starring Kate Beckinsale and costumed by Jenny Beavan ( ). A few brief notes on the 1972 serial, starring Dorin Godwin and costumed by Joan Ellacot ( ), will conclude the piece. The two recent versions of the story represent two different treatments of Regency-era clothing. The designers of each sought to "code" and reflect characters, moods, and situations through costume metaphor - this includes choice of fabric, colors, styles, accessories, and the like. However, while the television presentation, costumed by Jenny Beavan, sought to recreate the particular period during which the novel was written and published (1814-1816), Ruth Myers and the team chose an earlier and more generalised sort of look.
