Set in the framework of a six lesson study of the Animal Kingdom, we will use many online resources to study ten animals, learning about habitat, diet, classification, behavior and more. I have set the class up as if you were a child taking the class, so that you can get a feel for the flow of the lessons. Parents may take this course online with their children, however, children under 13 are not permitted to enroll or participate in this class alone. Children can only take this online course with an adult. Students will enjoy the teaching technique, but this course should serve to educate the parents, educators, and homeschoolers about how the internet can be an effective teaching tool.

Dear Sisterlocks Supporter: WE WON! After two and a half years of anticipation and stress, filings, pleadings and delays, we can finally say, WE WON! We have had to deal with depositions, and not-so-subtle charges from the opposition that we are dishonest, dirty, ignorant lawbreakers. We’ve had to tolerate lawyers prying into our files, and cross-examining us in every way on how we represent the business. They went through our records with a fine-toothed comb, from our receipts to our publicity brochures to the language we use to train people. We had to fight to keep the names of our trainees away from the opposition, for fear they would start harassing folks (…and they probably would have!). We’ve had to fight to keep the opposition from exposing our training materials in a way that would undermine our trademark protection. But, we won! Essentially, what this means is that anyone legitimately practicing Sisterlocks according to the standards our company has set forth, is EXEMPT from the current cosmetology law in California! We can now train and perform Sisterlocks free from the threat of attack from the State.

Partners Year 1: Roger L. Putnam Vocational School, Springfield Education Association, Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
    Overview
During this two year project Western MassCOSH worked initially with the Cosmetology Department Roger L. Putnam Vocational School in Springfield to incorporate awareness and toxics use reduction training into the current curriculum for hair and nail care. Teachers and students were trained in identifying chemical hazards, choosing less toxic alternatives, and incorporating pollution prevention practices into daily practices. Building on the 1999-2000 Healthy Hair Campaign TURN project in Boston, this project continued to raise awareness about toxic chemicals in hair dyes, hair relaxers, permanents, hairsprays, bleaches, disinfectants, nail sculpting and manicuring products. End products consisted of a curriculum, reference materials, and a self-inspection checklist.
The second year of this project focused refining and expanding the training program to three additional schools and train additional Western MassCOSH staff. The goal was to raise awareness among cosmetology teachers and students, vocational safety and health staff, cosmetology professionals, and the Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health's staff of the hazards associated with hair and nail care and to provide tools to reduce those hazards. Western MassCOSH conducted a "train-the-trainer" program at three Vocational Cosmetology Departments. The training materials were presented at four statewide trainings of Health Officers and at the annual Vocational School Conference. They will also be used in the future to raise awareness among the Board of Cosmetology.

    http://www.nictesting.org/position.html
NIC's position is summarized as follows:
    • NIC opposes the elimination of practical tests and made a joint resolution adopted in 1986 by NIC, NHCA and NACCAS.
    • NIC endorses state self-regulation, state by state, of instructional schools for the practice of cosmetology arts and sciences. NIC believes that the state cosmetology boards that have the authority vested in them to license the practitioner, the establishment for the practice, and the school for instruction, are in the best position to influence and establish curriculum, maintain and expand the scope of practice, and protect the rights and welfare of the general public.
    • NIC recognizes the importance of continuing education for cosmetology teachers and urges the adoption of continuing education requirements for license renewal of cosmetology teachers in every state.
    • NIC supports both written and practical tests as a necessary prerequisite for licensure. Currently NIC has national, newly revised, written, and practical tests.
    • To ensure the protection of the public health and safety associated with the practice of cosmetology and related activities, NIC has taken the following position:
      • Individuals who provide cosmetology-related services should be licensed.
