Metric Recipes and Recipe Conversion
The purpose of this site is to provide information about cooking with the metric system, and to give clear instructions and tables to convert recipes given in customary U.S. weights and measures to metric units. This site does not explain how to convert metric recipes to U.S. measures. Instead, I would recommend that any American trying to make a metric recipe simply make it in the original metric quantities. If you want to give it a try, then see the cooking in metric section of this site. Those outside the U.S. trying to cook an American recipe may wish to read the conversion basics section of this site to convert the American recipe into units that they understand like grams and liters. Anyone posting a recipe on the internet has good reasons to convert it to metric. Internet readers are a global audience, and it is likely that over half of all readers of your web site or posting are reading it from outside the U.S. Measures like cups, pints, pounds, and tablespoons have different sizes in different countries, so a recipe in customary American units may not turn out right if cooked in the British Isles (for example), and vice versa. Specifying your recipe in metric units ensures that it can be properly interpreted everywhere. Writers of cookbooks can also benefit from metricating their recipes, since books are bought and sold on the global market.

Conclusion
What is value, or: Is the Internet really an economy?
This is perhaps the wrong question - akin to asking whether direct-sales, or academic research is an economy. There is much of value to be found on the Internet, much production and consumption of goods and services. This is hardly surprising, given that the Net has attracted 60 million people and is growing in population at more than 100% annually. Many of the things found on the Net, though, can be found off it - free software such as Linux is distributed on CD-ROMs (for which you pay), not just on Internet FTP sites. The Net is not another planet, the people populating it are part of some "real world" society too, trading, producing and consuming things off-line. Although the word "virtual", like "cyber", has come to be associated with everything on-line, the act of creating products - such as home pages and notes published in discussion groups - is as real on the Net as it is in a factory or newspaper office. The "virtual" trade in knowledge products on-line, their "virtual" consumption and production by millions of people, are very real indeed, and affect the world outside the Net if only because its own population forms an increasing (if still small) part of that world's. This makes it all the more important to take note of differences between the part of the world's economy that is on the Net, and the rest. Millions of people have been interacting and participating in what they clearly value, using an economic logic different from what they might normally use in off- line lives. So there must be a definite possibility of the on-line economic logic spreading beyond the confines of the Net - it's the same people in both worlds, after all. There is no question that there are differences between the economic logic - the application of basic economic principles - on and off the Net.

    Egg Salad Sandwiches
Tonight I made egg salad sandwiches. I'm sure everyone knows how to make egg salad, but just in case... I don't really have a recipe, just a method. If you've never had egg salad, but you like deviled eggs, give this a try.
      Egg Salad Sandwiches
      • As many hard-boiled eggs as you think you need (9 eggs serves me and 4 kids)
      • Mayonnaise (you can also use Miracle Whip if you like that nasty stuff)
      • Mustard - any kind, but yellow salad mustard is the traditional kind
      • You can add pickle relish, onions, celery, whatever you like. I like it without.
Chop up the boiled eggs into 1/2" pieces and put them in a bowl. Add mayo and mustard - about two parts mayo to one part mustard - until it's all moist, but not soupy. Add the other stuff and stir it up. Spread on good sour dough bread, or toast. Serve with chips and a crisp dill pickle. Mmm...

    A Greekish Dinner
Tonight I made a yummy dinner. I marinated some chicken breasts some "Greek Marinade" that I found at the grocery store (and when I go back, if I remember to make note of the brand name, I'll come back and edit this entry). I grilled the chicken breasts on my stove top on one of those flat cast iron grill pans (which I obviously hadn't seasoned well enough, because the chicken stuck, and it smoked, and our very loud smoke alarm kept going off - well, I guess at least we know it works).

The information you find here will not always be politically correct, but it will be accurate and what is more, useful not only in cooking but in your interface with female society. Understand cooking as a sport and impress the woman in your life with minimal labor at the same time. You really should read the Introduction not only does it go in-depth into what this site is all about, but it also will give you some insight to the sport of baseball and why you should bother to cook at all. General Notes describes the basics you need to know in order to cook. There are also some keen observations on the tools of the trade. Beef - Yes, after this chapter all others seem superfluous. Beef is the real man's food of choice, and we have a few recipes that you can sink your teeth into.
