Hardware - Repairing Adaptec SCSI Controllers with bad Device ID (FFFFh) I got "Adaptec SCSI Card 19160" SCSI controller for repair. The problem was that PCI Device ID was wrong - FFFFh. Because of this, SCSI BIOS did not appear and no drivers could recognize the controller. First idea - the BIOS is corrupted. The card had Winbond W29EE512 PLCC Flash ROM. I ran UniFlash -pcior, saved the BIOS into file and compared it to new freshly downloaded BIOS from Adaptec - no differences. I reflashed it, then tried older version, then reflashed the newest BIOS again - still the same thing. Note that I flashed with UniFlash because Adaptec's flasher was unable to detect the card because of corrupt Device ID. Result: it's not a BIOS problem. When I was reading the readme file for the new BIOS, I noticed that the new BIOS should display "SEEPROM checksum corrected" when initialised for the first time. The controller has Serial EEPROM (SEEPROM) memory, where the configuration is stored. When there's configuration, there can also be Device ID. I found it - it's tiny 8-pin chip with Atmel 93C66 on it (in red circle on the picture above). http://www.yourvote.com/pci/pciread.asp?venid=0x9005
