The Center for Contemporary Music For over thirty years, the Center for Contemporary Music has been at the forefront of developments emphasizing experimental methods in contemporary music and its allied arts and sciences. In 1966, the San Francisco Tape Music Center (founded in 1961) moved to Mills College and became the Mills Tape Music Center, and later, the Center for Contemporary Music (CCM). Since its inception , this organization has achieved a strong international reputation as one of the leading centers for innovation in music. CCM maintains a variety of electronic equipment, instruments and studios , provides instruction and technical assistance, and archives audio recordings. These are available for use by qualified graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and staff. The Center also performs a wide variety of community services in the arts, including public concerts and lecture series , informational and technical assistance, and artist residencies In addition, the Center is one of few music facilities in the United States open to the public on a non-profit, non-commercial basis, serving independent composers, artists, and musical groups. Music Department Event Calendar Songlines Events The Center for Contemporary Music, in conjunction with the Mills Music Department , presents a series of concerts of new music and allied arts during the academic year. These feature performances and works by guest and resident artists. Many of the performances result directly from collaborative work underway at the Center. With modest assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer, guest artists have presented outstanding performances and have participated in the daily life of the Center through visits to classes and seminars and through informal meetings. For example, Robert Ashley and his cast performed two of his recent operas, Improvement (Don Leaves Linda) and el/Aficionado, in February of 1993 on stage in the Concert Hall. In addition, graduate students at the Center give highly inventive and well-produced concerts. Another program, the Songlines Series: Symposia on Sound, Nature, Technology, and Performance, has, since 1991, been a regular forum for the latest ideas in experimental music and art. Supported by a grant from the NEA, the series consists of informal evening discussions and/or performances, which are open to the public and led by guest artists and the Center's staff. WELCOME I started this website in November 1995 because I could find out very few Music Site mainly dedicated to "A.O.R. (Adult Oriented Rock)", for which European Music Lovers called as "Westcoast Music" in those days. And at that time, I had been aware that the music category called as "A.O.R." in Europe was a little different from so-called one here in Japan. In Europe, when people use this word "A.O.R.", it means that more hard-rock / melodic rock oriented music category, and on the other hand, the music so-called "Westcoast Music" in Europe is also a little different from our "A.O.R.". Due to preventing the confusion between the difference of definition of "A.O.R.", I decided to name my website as "Adult Contemporary Music In Japan". The word "Adult Contemporary Music" is generally understood that it includes not only "West Coast Pop Music" but also a part of "Black Contemporary" plus "Smooth Jazz/Fusion". It did not take a long time to receive attention of music-lovers in the world.
