HSLDA’s Tom Washburne recently provided a response to an analysis of the Honda bill, federal legislation proposed by HSLDA. I have not reproduced the response in its entirety because I have not obtained permission to do so, however, the following are some excerpts and comments on it. First, let me say that the analysis HSLDA is responding to was compiled by Attorney Deborah G. Stevenson, Founder of Connecticut’s C.U.R.E. (Connecticut’s Citizens to Uphold the Right to Educate) and Executive Director of H.E.L.D. of Connecticut, (Home Education Legal Defense of Connecticut). A copy of the analysis was distributed to several major homeschooling organizations in Connecticut and nationwide.

Connecticut Police Academy LAW ENFORCEMENT RESOURCE CENTER Mission Statement
The Law Enforcement Resource Center at the Connecticut Police Academy is a State agency library specializing in the fields of police service and criminology. The library also contains a small law book collection. The services and materials in the Law Enforcement Resource Center supplement the educational mission of the Connecticut Police Academy, which provides initial training for both Municipal and State Police recruits and in-service training for law enforcement officers in Connecticut. Education is necessary to foster the professionalism of law enforcement officers and a library contributes to an officer's education by providing the services and materials to enhance the curriculum and to allow for individualized learning. Materials are available to help law enforcement officers advance in their chosen career field, by providing information on other educational institutions, and materials needed to study for promotional examinations. Another mission of the Law Enforcement Resource Center is to provide information resources concerning police services and criminology to citizens of Connecticut. Students, professors, and members of the public may visit the library to conduct research. Other libraries may borrow resources through interlibrary loan. It is hoped that the specialized information available at the Law Enforcement Resource Center will encourage crime prevention, provide knowledge concerning crime and criminals, and foster an understanding of the role of the law enforcement officer.
