http://www.ctcema.org/recruit.html
AASL Task Force on Recruitment Questionnaire What are the state requirements for working as a school library media specialist in the state? Do these differ at different levels or by size of school?
A1. School library media specialist is a Pre-K through Grade 12 teaching certificate endorsements in CT. There is no difference based on school size or by level. There is no legislation that requires a school to hire a certified library media specialist, however, someone serving in that position must be appropriately certified.
Certification regulations for all certificates, including school library media specialists, can be found at the following Department of Education website: http://www.state.ct.us/sde/dtl/cert/toc9803_regs.pdf Does the state allow for emergency certification/licensure? What is the process for doing this? A2. CT has a provision to issue Durational Shortage Area Permits (DSAPs) in certification areas where there is a shortage of fully-qualified candidates - library media being one of them. A superintendent must request a DSAP from the Certification Bureau at the State Department of Education on behalf of the uncertified person s/he wants to hire for a library media position in the district. In the request, there must be a statement of the district's recruitment process and why the candidate is superior to any certified applicants. To be eligible for a DSAP, an individual must be enrolled in a program leading to certification and have completed at least 12 credit hours.

Flanders Nature Center
Any discussion of Woodbury would not be complete without a reference to Flanders Nature Center and its founder, Natalie Van Vleck. Since its inception in 1963, Flanders has become an integral part of the community, serving as a land trust, nature preserve and center for environmental education. The nature center owns or manages some 1300 acres of land in Woodbury, Middlebury, Southbury and Bethlehem, has a full-time education director and commands the respect and support of the town's people. To accurately trace the history of Flanders nature Center, as long-time Board of Directors member Virginia Hart did for Voices, a time line must be drawn beginning in 1926 when the Van Vleck family purchased 10 acres of land on both side of Flanders Road. One year later, the Van Flecks moved into the white farm house that stands on the cored of Flanders and Church Hill Roads. At the time of the move, Natalie Van Vleck was an active artist producing paintings that sill hang in the farm house, After inheriting money in 1928 from the May family at New York, Natalie built an art studio next to the farmhouse, allowing her to focus on painting.

70. State Laws And Regulations
scrambling to reform their education system, the perspective on homeschooling, laws, and regulations.
http://www.home-ed-magazine.com/HSRSC/hsrsc_lws.rgs.html
PLEASE READ
BEFORE GOING FURTHER
The HEM staff has been considering pulling these listings. The main reason is that as homeschooling becomes more widely accepted, and as states are scrambling to reform their education system, the situation becomes more complex. This makes overviews, listings and rankings less valid. We have, however, decided to keep these listings in place because they carry, at a minimum, a link to your state government. Additionally we hope reading cited code and at least one homeschooler's interpretation will help start to demystify legislation and encourage you to investigate further. When talking to new homeschoolers we often hear concerns about the law. Is homeschooling legal? Who do I have to notify? What do I have to teach? While the legalities are a concern that should not be ignored, neither should our response be automatic and not thought out carefully.
There is no single source, no one true homeschooling authority. We all own the responsibility to think through laws and regulations on homeschooling. Of course you'll find those who disagree - an entire industry has grown up around the fact that there are differences of opinion on homeschooling's legal matters. What we offer here are overviews of laws and regulations compiled by knowledgeable homeschoolers. These files are not legal advice nor the final word on the subject. They are simply a starting point. To maintain our freedom to homeschool we will each need to go far beyond any convenient compilation or synopsis. We need to continue to do our own learning, lead our own research, and decide on our own actions.

Vouchers Updated: Apr 23, 2004 CONNECTICUT ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS POSITION PAPER NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) welcomes the national commitment that has been made to bring every child in this country to a meaningful level of proficiency in key academic areas. The federal government expressed this high purpose through enactment of the No Child Left Behind legislation (NCLB) which requires the achievement of universal student proficiency in language arts, mathematics and science. CAPSS members share this commitment with the Congress and the President of the United States. For many years, in fact, it has been the goal of school superintendents throughout Connecticut to close the achievement gap for low-income and minority students and thereby assure the success of all
students in these subject areas and others. This goal has now become a national priority. CAPSS is concerned, however, not only about the absence of best practices in
