Gershwin
George Gershwin lived between 1898 and 1937. He is considered to be a twentieth century composer.
If you hate homework but like roller skating, you have something in common with American composer George Gershwin. Born in Brooklyn, New Yord to Russian immigrant parents, George loved to play street hockey, 'cat', and punch ball. He didn’t even have an interest in music until his family got him a piano when he was twelve. Nine years later he had his first hit, "Swanee", with lyrics written by Irving Caesar. No one else in the Gershwin family was musical, but George was fascinated by music. When he heard a schoolmate play the violin, George struck up a friendship with the boym who introduced him to the world of concert music.
Gershwin's American in Paris and Rhapsody in Blue (featured in Disney's newly released Fantasia 2000 ) proved that jazz was powerful enough to combine will with symphonic music. Gershwin was only 26 years old at the time when he composed

Dale Bruning Bio
Articles Bios Birthdays Books ... Email A native of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, guitarist, composer, arranger and educator Dale Bruning spent time living, working and recording in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York during the 1940s and 1950s. During his tenure in the United States Navy from 1953-57, he was a guitarist and arranger, and when called upon, he also played piano, bass, vibes and percussion. Upon his release in 1957, he studied at Temple University, declaring and graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He took as many music classes as he could. Concurrently, he studied music and guitar with world renowned educator Dennis Sandole. In 1961, Mr. Bruning became the leader of the house band for The Del Shields Show , a television variety program that originated from Philadelphia on WRCV, an NBC affiliate. In 1964, he and his family moved to Denver. An accident in 1988 nearly ended Mr. Bruning's career as a performing musician. While securing a window pane in the rubbish can, a piece of glass broke and slashed a deep cut across his left wrist. His median nerve to the fingers and the thumb tendon were badly cut. Dr. Charles Hamlin rebuilt the sheath around the nerve, enabling it to regenerate itself. After this tragedy, his commitment to playing was fueled by his deep passion for the music and his own acts of courage every time he picked up the guitar to practice, knowing the pain would be excruciating. His valor during the slow rehabilitative process was rewarded, however, as he has become an even stronger performer than prior to the accident. Considering that he has little feeling in one finger, he amazes audiences with his ability and agility on the fingerboard.

Jay Mueller - Bass Born in Louisiana, Jay attended the Northwestern State University of Louisiana and also studied at the University of Houston. A serious bassist, Jay is on demand for gigs on tuba, and electric and upright bass. He is a charter member of the small circle of bass players that pioneered the "Four Beat Swing" style of tuba playing. After moving to L.A. and studying with Morty Corb and Bob Magnusson, Jay worked with the Disneyland Band, the Bill Holman and Tom Kubis big bands, The Composers big band, and the San Bernardino Civic Opera. This led to numerous studio dates, including jingles for British Petroleum and work on the hit television show "Wings." A move to Orlando, Florida, proved to be a smart one. Jay performed at Circus World, Walt Disney World, and toured with the Ringling Bros. Circus Band. Orlando also opened the door to engagements with Bob Crosby and the Bobcats and many jazz appearances, as well as guest appearances with the Florida Symphony Orchestra. He has performed for many Broadway shows, including CATS, A Chorus Line, and The Phantom of the Opera.

    CHRISINE JENSEN BIO Christine Jensen
    • ALTO & SOPRANO SAXOPHONE, COMPOSITION • Christine Jensen has built a reputation as an original voice on both the Canadian and International jazz scene. In May 2000 she released her debut recording featuring her sextet entitled Collage on Effendi Records, which went on to receive rave reviews internationally. "Jensen has arrived with a beautiful bang, making spirited, positive music" -Ottawa Citizen "Collage is a carefully layered work that reveals new musical vistas with each listening" -JazzTimes Magazine Born in Sechelt, British Columbia, Jensen spent her formative years in Nanaimo, gaining a firm footing in the jazz and classical tradition. Her mother, an accomplished pianist and music teacher, had her taking piano lessons starting at age seven. Subsequently, Jensen picked up the alto saxophone in order to participate in the city's award winning school music program. Her teachers, as well as her mother's record collection turned her in the direction of jazz, garnering her accolades for her saxophone playing at a national level. Jensen's works have been transported all over the world, in part due to her sister, jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen. Her composition skills gained attention when Ingrid's debut jazz album Vernal Fields went on to win the 1996 Juno Award. This album contained three of her compositions, including the title track. She has had her big band works played and recorded by the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, The Banff Jazz Orchestra, The McGill Jazz Orchestra, as well as numerous University bands throughout North America.

WOODS co-founded Steeleye Span with ex-Fairport Convention bassist Ashley Hutchings. They left that band in 1970 and formed their own Woods Band with guitarist Ed Deane, drummer Pat Nash and Gay's brother Austin Corcoran. The Woods Band released an eponymous-titled album in 1971 but soon after Gay and Terry Woods returned to live in Ireland. Their repertoire included distinctive arrangements of traditional folk songs and they attracted the attention of Polydor Records who signed the duo in 1973. Their first album for the label, 'Backwoods' , received encouraging reviews and had a strong Irish feel, the follow-up 'The Time Is Right' was more influenced by American folk and country music. Gay and Terry's third and final album for Polydor was released in autumn 1976 and was electric folk with support from Fairport Convention's Dave Pegg and Dave Mattacks and Andrew Bodnar and Steve Goulding from Graham Parker and The Rumour. After a couple of independent label releases in the seventies Gay relocated to Holland and formed Auto Da Fe with Trevor Knight. Auto Da Fe was far removed from the previous folk rock incarnations and the band's synthesiser-led rock featured on two albums and six singles. In the early 1990s Auto Da Fe disbanded.
