Back to Top "Siems is a fountain of muted melody, with a masterful grasp of the guitaristic art of the octave."
-Cadence magazine
Born in Minneapolis in 1967, Ben Siems began studying piano when he was seven years old, switching to cello at age nine. He first tried his hand at composing only a few years later, writing arrangements of traditional songs for violin, cello and piano. Siems began teaching himself guitar during his senior year of high school, learning from the records of B.B. King and Robert Johnson. After attending Brown University, he made a name for himself on the East Coast folk scene as a solo acoustic guitarist and singer, combining classic blues playing techniques with his lyrical sense of melody. His solo recording, Sun's Gonna Shine , was aired on a number of New Jersey radio stations as he toured that state, playing to full houses at such legendary venues as the Mine Street Coffeehouse.

The group includes Taylor on viola, violin and acoustic guitar, Steve Zirkel on fretless and fretted electric bass and trumpet,, Brad Evilsizer on drums and percussion, and Jason McKenzie on tablas, drums and percussion. Taylor formed the group in 2000, after rehearsing and presenting a number of eclectic and enthusiastically received shows with artists from the pop, rock and folk communities, including artists such as Sara Hickman and Barbara K . The group's self-titled cd , released in December of 2000, offers a small window into the eclectic group of singers, songwriters, and instrumental and stylistic approaches that have created such a buzz for Strings Attached, including recordings with artists such as Ian Moore , Sara Hickman, and Barbara K. It was obvious to Taylor and the artists involved that the scene was ready to see a formalized group continue these collaborative efforts, and Strings Attached was the result. Since that time, recent shows have featured Ray Wylie Hubbard,

collaboration of Richard Boukas and Jovino Santos Neto offers a uniquely contemporary and universal musical language that abandons all common artificial industry boundaries between Brazilian, Jazz, Classical and other evolving traditions. Their work is marked by an organic synergy of primary Brazilian genres and polyrhythms including samba, bai‹o, maracatu, choro and frevo ; rich and daring Jazz harmonies and improvisations; extended compositional structures driven by Classical contrapuntal textures and motivic development. Such fertile crossroads allow Boukas and Santos Neto to explore a broad musical horizon while maintaining the stylistic integrity and clarity of a workÕs primary component influences.
