In 1994 the South African Communist Party (SACP) was not an independent political entity, but a strong faction within the ANC, where its members held important leadership positions. Former party leaders, Joe Slovo and Chris Hani, for example, had both served as chief of staff of the ANC's military wing and on its most important committees. The SACP won strong representation in the National Assembly in 1994, not by participating openly in the April 1994 elections, but by having SACP members well repres ented among delegates from the ANC. The SACP was originally founded as the Communist Party of South Africa (CPSA) in July 1921 in Cape Town. The CPSA was formed out of the merger of several leftist organizations, including the International Socialist League (ISL), the Social Democratic Federation, the Durban Marxist Club, the Cape Communist Party, and the Jewish Socialist Society. The CPSA affiliated with the Communist International (Comintern), headquartered in Moscow, which provided it with political direction, although some party fac tions opposed Moscow's intervention in South African affairs. Although whites dominated the party in the 1920s, some CPSA leaders attempted to strengthen its reputation as an indigenous communist organization by increasing its African membership and orientation. David Ivon Jones and Sidney Percival Bunting, form erly of the ISL, translated the concept of social revolution into a struggle for a "black republic" and a "democratic native republic, with equal rights for all races." The major stumbling block they encountered was the belief, inherent in Marxist dogma, that all workers fundamentally share the same interests. In South Africa, white workers generally felt they had little in common with their black counterparts and feared that any improvements for black workers would reduce their own status and income.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CPI On December 26, 1925, a few ardent young patriots moved by the urge to free the motherland from colonial bondage, inspired by the Great October Socialist Revolution and fired with revolutionary zeal, braved imperialist persecution and came together in the city of Kanpur, to form the Communist Party of India with a view to fight for national independence and a future of socialism. The birth of the CPI was the result of tremendous historical developments at home and abroad. The CPI was born in the period when the anti-imperialist struggle in India had acquired new mass militant dimensions taking the shape of the historic first non-cooperation movement of 1920-22, led by the Congress and headed by Gandhiji. The workers, peasants, middle classes and students had been roused to new levels of consciousness and action. Thousands of militant patriotic cadres had been thrown up by the national upheaval. But the disappointment and disenchantment caused by the sudden withdrawal of the non-cooperation movement compelled them to search for new, more revolutionary and consistent platforms and forms of anti-imperialist struggle

It's nice of him to include us all , but I certainly didn't know it would come. And if he knew, he kept it a surprise. "Conservative doctrine in America had been that it would never come. The mainstream conservative goal shared by mainstream liberals, with arguments about ways and means has been containment of communism. The extreme right position has been to roll back communism through military, but the conservative view (unlike that of the father of containment George Kennan) has never been that contained communism would collapse of its own internal contradictions. "Quite the opposite. The conservative view has been that communism would always rise above the contradictions."

RIGHTS-CHINA: Dissidents Give Communist Party the Jitters
By Antoaneta Bezlova BEIJING, Sep 30 (IPS) - The Chinese Communist Party has ruled the country unchallenged for nearly half a century, but is now nursing growing fears about the invincibility of its authority. The jitters felt by the Communist Party, one of the world's most powerful political groups, have been exposed in a fresh clampdown on dissent some three months after U.S. President Bill Clinton's first visit to China and during the first visit of United Nations human rights chief Mary Robinson this month. There is a reason for the party's nervousness even as it marks the 49th anniversary of the founding of Communist China on Oct 1. For the first time since Mao Zedong's communist troops declared victory over the Nationalist Party of Chiang Kai-shek in 1949 and forced it to flee to Taiwan, another rival to the Communist Party has made an attempt to exist on the mainland. Since late June, dissidents from different provinces in the country have been uniting their voices to demanding the registration of a new group called the China Democracy Party.

War on Terror and Political Parties.
History teaches that civilizations ebb and flow like the tide. They ebb and flow due to an infinite number of influences and variables. It is natural in the affairs of humankind that what they build, will not last. Nature will eventually undo all that humankind has exerted such strenuous efforts to make permanent. The reason is that nature is in the core of humankind on this earth. The one and only hope of humankind to make anything permanent, is to conquer space travel and thus insure the continuation of the species long after this earth is a crusted cinder. I know, this sounds a bit metaphysical. But, the very best an individual can do is open their mind and eyes to what is real. I don't know for sure if this latest reaction to 9/11 will commit America to a path of diminishment, or not. But, at some point I hope Americans will see that we kill more people in auto accidents, more Americans are maimed or die each year from pollution and medical malpractice than died in the 9/11 attacks. As Prof. Michael E. Tigar warns

It must be understood that in the course of signalling the end of the Vajpayee regime, the outcome of the 2004 elections has particularly expressed a strong rejection of the anti-people and pro-imperialist economic policies. The reverses suffered by the Congress governments in Kerala, Karnataka and Punjab are no less significant than the rout of the Naidu government in Andhra and the warning served on the Modi government in Gujarat.
The new government must be called upon to repeal POTA and release all political prisoners, mete out effective punishment to the perpetrators of the Gujarat genocide, provide immediate and adequate relief for the rural poor and crisis-ridden farmers and reorient the country’s economic and foreign policies.
