We'd also like to thank AOL, who has supplied the hardware the main info-mac machine runs on. Subject: Hello Info-Mac, I am looking for an OS8 compatible utility that will give me the functionality of Now Utilities (v6.7). The specific functionality I am looking for is: Now Menus ability to customize the order of the items displayed in the Apple Menu Items, display icons in the sub-menues, and add separators. I would also like to find a utility that duplicates the functionality found in Now Super Boomerang (NSB). NSB aids in the navigation of open and save dialogue boxes by adding a menu bar which contains contains items for frequently used folders, last used folder, drives, etc. Does anyone know if any of the components of Now Utilities are compatible with OS8? Please respond to me directly, as I am only able to read the digest periodically. Thanks. Whitney L. Ted Begins Billion Dollar Donations

By on May 29, 1998 12:00 AM
The first grants of the $1 billion gift that Time Warner Vice Chairman Ted Turner has pledged to donate to the U.N. will be used to support welfare and health programs in poor countries, the fund's director said Wednesday.
Most of the grants totaling $22 million will contribute to the programs of the U.N. Population Fund and the U.N. Children's Fund, also known as UNICEF. About three quarters of the amount will be used to disarm children soldiers, fight violence against women, help land mine victims and improve health services.

G8 COMMUNIQUÉ OKINAWA 2000 Okinawa, 23 July 2000 Preamble
  • We , the Leaders of eight major industrialised democracies and the President of the European Commission, met together here in Okinawa for the 26th Summit in the year which heralds a new millennium. We reflected upon the challenges faced and progress made since the First Summit in Rambouillet in working toward peace and prosperity throughout the world, and we discussed the role the G8 should play as it evolves in the 21st century. Du ring the last quarter of the 20th century, the world economy has achieved unprecedented levels of prosperity, the Cold War has come to an end, and globalisation has led to an emerging common sense of community. Driving these developments has been the global propagation of those basic principles and values consistently advocated by the Summiteers-democracy, the market economy, social progress, sustainable development and respect for human rights. Yet we are keenly aware that even now in many parts of the world poverty and injustice undermine human dignity, and conflict brings human suffering. A s we make the transition into the new century, we will continue to exercise leadership and responsibility in addressing these persistent problems and squarely face new challenges as they arise. We must tackle the root causes of conflict and poverty. We must bravely seize the opportunities created by new technologies in such areas as information and communications technology (IT) and life sciences. We must acknowledge the concerns associated with globalisation, while continuing to be innovative in order to maximise the benefits of globalisation for all. In all our endeavours we must build on our basic principles and values as the foundations for a brighter world in the 21st century.
