The veteran adjunct of the City University of New York's Baruch College is training to become an instructor for the online division of the University of Phoenix, purportedly the world's largest private university, boasting a distance learning program with more than 60,000 students enrolled as of February. Task B: Online Communication
Think about some of the ways in which teachers and students in our recent readings used online communication tools to expand their classrooms. We read about teachers who set up chats or discussion boards for cultural exchanges with classrooms in other parts of the world. We viewed transcripts of virtual meetings between students and popular children's authors. We read about virtual field trips where students never even left their classrooms, and yet they had opportunities to question and learn from leading historians and scientists. The goal of this task is for you come up a way that you could use online communication tools to enhance a unit or lesson that you either currently teach, or have previously taught in a more conventional way. Those of you who are currently student-teaching are welcome to be creative for this part. Since you haven't had the same experiences as some of your fellow students, draw from your past experiences as a student or from a lesson you've observed or taught in the classroom in which you've been placed. You are not actually required to develop the online learning environment, although if you haven't used your chosen tool before, you should play around with it to be sure it does what you think it does. However, it should be something you could actually accomplish with your selected communications tool. If you write that you'll be videoconferencing with astronauts on Mars using Nicenet, I probably won't believe you (although if you make a good case for how you're going to do it, I'll open my mind).

For this post, I'd like you to find and describe one free program or service (like Nicenet or TappedIn) available on the Internet that could be of use in your district, school, or classroom. The software or service you choose should be legally available for free. In other words, you should not cover anything that is pirated. You may use one of the services or open source programs that we covered in our readings. If you do, please provide details that were not covered in the readings. About Readers Theatre Readers Theatre introduces the element of drama into literacy learning and magically transforms the classroom into a stage. During Readers Theatre time, the reader is at center stage, totally absorbed in reading. The reader is a star. The element of drama enables students to realize that reading is an activity that permits experimentation they can try reading words in different ways to produce different meanings. Using volume, pitch, stress, and intonation, readers delve into the Readers Theatre text, making printed words come alive and giving their characters life. As they practice their roles, readers are also given the opportunity to reflect on the text and to evaluate and revise how they interact with it ( Carrick, 2000

Technology and Innovation in the Classroom Learning about the Internet Designing Lessons for the Internet Distance Learning
The Internet is more than just a series of electronic books that can be read on the computer. The Internet is an interactive media that connects people and ideas in a community forum. Students participating in distance learning must learn to: research, determine validity and relevance of resources, communicate effectively with others, collaborate with others to solve problems, and publish the results of their study.
Teachers are facilitators in this process. Teachers design or find programs on the Internet that meet their students needs so that they can guide their students. Then evaluation of the outcome of the project can be a cooperative process.

Classroom Internet Resources As a graduate of SUNY Cortland with a concentration in Psychology of the Exceptional Child I feel that I prepared to deal with the toughest situations with regards to children with special needs. I may not be a professional in testing or intervention, but I am prepared to think critically about children's individual needs. I believe early intervention is the key to a successful education for children with special needs and will strive to achieve this as I enter a new classroom each year.
I have included these internet sources because I think each and everyone of them may be useful for myself and any other elementary teachers.

      • The item must be fixed in some way. The fixation may be just about anything. For example, a piece of paper, a computer disk, a audiotape, or a videotape are all legitimate forms of fixation.
    • Originality:
      • The work must be original. Originality includes a novel or a student's e-mail message to a professor. Both are considered examples of original expression.
      Minimal Creativity:
      • The work must include something that is above and beyond the original. Verbatim use is not considered original. Reference to the original work that is used to discuss a new concept would be considered original, however.
