Scientology and Dianetics Legacy of L. Ron Hubbard
Church of Scientology and Dianetics Legacy of L. Ron Hubbard Scientology was founded in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard an American science fiction writer and author of the best-selling book Dianetics (1950), which launched a popular self-enhancement movement out of which the Church of Scientology emerged. Main Sacred Text: L. Ron Hubbard 's best-selling book "Dianetics" is probably the closest thing to sacred scriptures for the Church of Scientology. Scientology follows a long tradition of religious practice. Its roots lie in the deepest beliefs and aspirations of all great religions, thus encompassing a religious heritage as old and as varied as man himself. Though drawing upon the wisdom of some 50,000 years, Scientology is a new religion, one which has isolated fundamental laws of life and, for the first time, developed a workable technology that can be applied to help one achieve a happier and more spiritual existence. Scientology is therefore something one does, not merely something one believes in – an important point which will be greatly clarified as you read on. That Scientology’s development and rapid promulgation was made possible, in part, by advances in the physical sciences through the first half of the twentieth century is significant. Scientology constitutes man’s first real application of scientific methodology to spiritual questions.

CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY LAWSUIT FORCES BERLIN INTERIOR MINISTRY TO END SURVEILLANCE OF SCIENTOLOGY AFTER SIX YEARS
September 1, 2003 A March 2003 lawsuit filed by the Church of Scientology Berlin against the Berlin Ministry of the Interior (MOI) has resulted in the MOI ending surveillance of the Church and its members. Now the Berlin MOI has become the first state to publicly declare, in legal papers filed in the lawsuit, that surveillance will end. A similar suit filed by the Church of Scientology Germany against the federal MOI is pending. Leisa Goodman, Human Rights Director of the Church of Scientology International In December 2001, the Court forbade the Berlin MOI from attempting to infiltrate the Church. Recently, however, the states of Northrhine Westphalia and Hessia have quietly dropped surveillance. Schleswig-Holstein has refused to implement it. Harrison in Clearwater Florida, which is the Fort Harrison Hotel, a Scientology property. Lisa had been a Scientologist from the age of 18 to her death at age 36. Lisa was put on the Introspection Rundown that Scientology uses to handle those who have had a psychotic break. On November 18, 1995, Lisa was involved in a minor car accident. She was apparently not hurt, but she got out of her car and took all her clothes off and seemed mentally unstable. She was taken to a hospital where she was physically evaluated as being unharmed, but the hospital wanted her to be psychologically cared for. However, some Scientologists arrived and stated that Lisa did not believe in psychiatry, and she checked out after a short evaluation and left with the Scientologists. She went with them to the Ft. France urged to ban Scientology
The church has 8 million members worldwide
A government committee in France has recommended dissolving the Church of Scientology there, on the grounds that its activities threatens public order.
A report submitted to the Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin, described the church as a "totalitarian" sect that kept files containing personal information on its members.
The head of the committee, Alain Vivien, said that while the committee opposed a blanket ban on what he termed sects, it favoured dissolving "extremely dangerous" organisations such as the Church of Scientology.
Celebrity Scientologists: Tom Cruise and wife Nicole Kidman
The report added: "When such organisations disrupt public order and violate human dignity, measures should be taken to dissolve them." Mr Vivien said the committee had determined that the church's leaders in France were manipulated by their headquarters in Los Angeles. He attacked the organisation's operation in France as "underground activities led from abroad".

Secret IRS/Church of Scientology Agreement Revealed
On October 1, 1993 the US Internal Revenue Service signed a secret agreement with the Church of Scientology granting unique privileges to the church. This agreement was counter to court rulings, including the US Supreme Court. This agreement only came to light (despite a court ruling to make it public) on December 30 1997 when the Wall Street Journal put it on their web page. The church had been fighting the IRS for a long time to get its tax exemption. In fact, the church claimed to have had 2500 lawsuits going at once against the IRS and individual auditors. The church was waging an all out war against the IRS, and it is my belief that the IRS caved into the pressure from the church to grant it exemption. The IRS had won every court case against Scientology up to the time of the Secret Agreement that had to do with tax exemption. There was no need for it to buckle under. And this now sets a horrible precedent for other organizations, who will see that it is possible to pummel a reluctant IRS into submission. The IRS even lied about this agreement.

Introduction The Internet is fertile ground for religious groups that want to attract new followers. The World Wide Web (WWW) has become a sanctuary for groups seeking to renew themselves in light of the growing online population. A recent count of religious websites on AltaVista , an online search engine, revealed slightly more than 200,000 religious sites. Yahoo , a website directory, lists more than 1200 religious categories, from African-Religions to Zoroastrianism. In the category for Christianity, Yahoo includes more than 9300 websites. Consider that even the best search engine accounts for a trivial number of active websites, and one can begin to sense the immensity of the environment. But as this playing field grows, religions, factions, and cults will be in competition and questions of religious credibility will inevitably arise.

SCIENTOLOGY v. the INTERNET
By Jim Lippard and Jeff Jacobsen
The power to control the dissemination of information is the power to influence the beliefs and actions of human beings. Nothing has transformed civilization in such dramatic and unforeseen ways as the development of information technology which affects that power. The printing press, the telegraph, the telephone, radio, and television have altered societies by increasing the speed of communication, the quantity of information that can be communicated, and the potential number of recipients of any message. As each new technology becomes cheaper to use, the ability of individuals to create and spread their own messages is enhanced, and control over the flow of knowledge becomes decentralized. Institutions and individuals that require the ability to control information to retain power have found themselves ousted as technologies have undermined that ability. Falling into the last category is the Church of Scientology (COS), which has seen texts of secret Scientology teachings, affidavits and declarations from court cases, and even entire books by Scientology critics, made publicly (and anonymously) available on both the Internet and the Usenet, a collection of thousands of public discussion forums known as newsgroups. Rather than answering the criticism, Scientologists have responded in their standard manner-by attacking their critics with confrontation and litigation. This article is a summary of recent events in what began as the battle between Scientology and its critics and, because of these tactics, is now the battle between Scientology and the Internet.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~anco/mental/
^home 'What is our purpose on this world?', and 'Is there life after death?' are IMHO invalid questions that we simply never can answer. We are only able to believe in some of those answers. Some time ago I stopped thinking about these questions. Instead of those questions I started wondering what 'excatly we humans are' and 'Given this life, how can we live it as best as possible?' Not that I know the answers by now, but I am doing my best. Some communication courses that I once did at Landmark Education helped me on my way of asking myself those above mentioned question. I gained a lot from these courses, together with a lot of discussions with friends. A book by the Spanish filosopher Savater gave a useful hint to figure out what the answer should be. And the book 'Kinds of Minds' by Dennet changed my view on human beings quite a lot. The Landmark Education Corporation has been and is quite disputed, also on the internet. Read for a critical note the Rants and Raves page which contains all sorts of links and information about LEC. For the mirror version on this site click here . I can only speak for myself and say that I gained a lot from these courses. I personally think that it depends a lot about what you are looking for and want to gain from courses in general and what you finally do with your new acquired knowledge. I at least gained a bit of confidence to do the things that I want to do in life. Another interesting site on the subject of memes that I would recommend in general. (Warning:

Church of Scientology probes Herald reporter - Investigation follows pattern of harassment By By Jim MacLaughlin and Andrew Gully
Boston Herald
Date of Publication:3/19/1998
The Church of Scientology, stung by a five-part series in the Boston Herald that raised questions about its practices, has hired a private investigator to delve into the Herald reporter's private life. The Rev. Heber Jentzsch, president of the Church of Scientology International, confirmed that the church's Los Angeles law firm hired the private investigative firm to look into the personal life of reporter Joseph Mallia, who wrote the series. "This investigation will have to look at what's riving this" coverage, said Jentzsch. Herald Editor Andrew F. Costello Jr. said, "What's driving this coverage is simply the public interest. Nothing more, nothing less." The investigator, Steve Long of Vision Investigative Services in Rohnert Park, Calif., contacted Mallia's ex-wife in Berkeley, Calif., March 3. Long told the woman he was looking for derogatory information, according to the former wife, whose name is being withheld for reasons of privacy. "I'm looking for the 'scorned wife' story," she said Long told her. She said she declined to provide information about her divorce, which took place more than 15 years ago.

Not the Scientology Home Page
thingy Frank Copeland The so-called Church of Scientology has always made a damn nuisance of itself, ever since it was founded as Dianetics ("The Modern Science of Mental Health") by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. Now it is engaged in a life-or-death struggle on the Internet as it desperately tries to preserve the secrecy of its absurd "scriptures" and silence criticism of its destructive and often criminal behaviour.
Official Scientology Home Pages
There is no better presentation of Scientology's self-image than the Scientology Home Page . The Dianetics Home Page advertises the alternative (and completely discredited) psychotherapy that started it all. The L. Ron Hubbard Home Page is a tribute to Scientology's founder, the infallible Source of all it believes. The various Scientology pages prominently display icons for several awards, yet the icons don't contain the customary links to the web sites of the judges. If you are as curious about this odd behaviour as I was, take a look at what my researches turned up in the Scientology web awards page.

Erik Moeller points out that it appears Google has only relisted the index page of xenu.net. Yesterday, I speculated about googlebombing being the reason for xenu.net no longer being returned from Google. Things have changed a bit, and more information is available now. First of all, Google now returns a lot of pages from xenu.net, just not the ones mentioned in the link above. In addition, ranking of various xenu.net pages is now totally skewed compared with how many links to the site. claim that they do not remove pages. To quote Google:
