Your Personality
Determines Your Happiness.
Know Why? Fill Out this FREE Personality Test and find out. Ever seen one of these, maybe slipped into your mailbox or tucked under a windshield wiper blade? It's a one-sheet, multiple-choice, 200-question exam. The quiz resembles an extremely watered-down version of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, which itself is fundamentally bogus. You are instructed to answer every question by checking one of three boxes (for yes, no, maybe). Then you are treated to 200 questions, such as:
  • Are you a slow eater?
  • Do you often ponder your own inferiority?
  • When recounting some amusing incident can you easily imitate the mannerisms or the dialect in the original incident?
Based on yes-no-maybe responses to incisive questions like these, it is possible to develop a detailed snapshot of your psychological makeup and take full stock of your crippling inadequacies. You're supposed to fill it out and send it back to a regional testing center (conveniently, it's even postage-paid). And then, a few days later, you'll receive a phone call inviting you to a local branch office to watch a videotape and go over your results. When you come in for that face-to-face meeting, invariably the upshot is that you are a total mess. Your life peaked a long time ago, and it's been getting progressively worse. You need help... a lot of it, and fast. But don't despair the same group who scored your exam is perfectly happy to sit down with you and explain what you need to solve those problems and reach your full potential. Which is: join the Church of Scientology.

Scientology was started by sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, and evolved from his initial concept of Dianetics. The Scientology religion is based exclusively upon L. Ron Hubbard's research, writings and recorded lectures all of which constitute the Scriptures of the religion. These encompass more than 500,000 pages of writings, nearly 3,000 recorded lectures and more than 100 films. He is the only source of the religion, and he has no successor. A fundamental doctrine of the Scientology religion is that spiritual freedom can be attained only if the path outlined in these works is followed without deviation, for it is an intensively researched and workable route.

in Washington The Church of Scientology has taken its long-running battle against the distribution of its material on internet sites - especially sites critical of the church - to Google, one of the most popular search sites on the internet. Google catalogues more than two billion pages on the internet, but cyber civil libertarians cried foul when the site removed links to a website called Operation Clambake, due to a legal challenge from the Church of Scientology. The Operation Clambake site portrays the church as a money-hungry cult. Google fights back While Google complied with the church's request, it also quietly began to defend its freedom to link. Now, the church's tactics might have backfired, because when the search site receives a request to remove a link, it also forwards a copy of the legal request to a civil liberties site called chillingeffects.org. Google still links to Operation Clambake's homepage and Google's search results are based in part on links to a site.

December 19, 1996
Web posted at: 8:00 a.m. EST From Correspondent Dan Knapp SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) At one time, the Cult Awareness Network took as many as 16,000 telephone calls a year in an effort to help anxious families worried about sons or daughters involved with unconventional religions. But last month, after 20 years of operation, the Cult Awareness Network closed its doors, forced into bankruptcy after losing a costly lawsuit to the church of Scientology. Now the phones are ringing again but this time there's a good chance they'll be answered by a Scientologist. In a bizarre twist of fortune, the organization that was once the most vocal critic of Scientology is now owned by a member of the controversial church. "I think this is going to be devastating," said Cynthia Kisser , former director of the Cult Awareness Network. "People are going to believe they're going to talk to an organization that's going to help and understand them in their time of crisis, and in fact, it could be a pipeline of information directly to the group they're most afraid of." Since 1991, 50 lawsuits were filed against the Cult Awareness Network by people who were somehow connected with the Church of Scientology, said Kisser. Most were dismissed but one produced a judgment of nearly $2 million against the network.

For over 40 years, the Churches of Scientology and their members have involved themselves in actively solving the problems of society...
Opening its doors on 18 February, 1954, the Church of Scientology in Los Angeles began as a thinly-staffed group who, nevertheless, wanted to deliver L. Ron Hubbard's life-changing technology to others and help him achieve the goal of a new civilization. As word about the miracle results of Hubbard's technology spread, and as his organizational policy was issued and implemented, the Los Angeles church grew. It moved to larger and larger facilities to accommodate its growing congregation.
The LA Church moved to larger quarters in December, 1962,
at 2005 West 9th Street, where it was located until 1978.
In 1965, the Los Angeles church expanded into two organizations: the "Los Angeles Day Organization," and the "Los Angeles Foundation." Los Angeles Day Organization was also charged with the responsibility of being the senior Scientology organization serving Scientologists throughout the western United States. The Foundation organization was given its own role of servicing the workaday world of local LA.

Most members of the public today have heard of Scientology, but few are aware of the Sea Organisation (SO), and the Church itself does not publicise the "Sea Org", as it is called, except to its own members. As a consequence, such accounts as exist have appeared mostly in the media and rely for much of their content on statements by former members of the Church Indeed, few such reports have dealt with the Sea Organisation as a whole, and some have focused on one its sub-groups, the Rehabilitation Project Force, referred to within the Sea Organisation by its initials RPF. The Church describes the RPF as a programme of redemption for members of the SO who have committed severe violations of its codes. The RPF performs a specialised function within the SO, one that, according to the Church, is consistent with that employed by other religious communities to assist erring members of their core religious group to make amends for wrongdoing and return to the good graces of the religious order from whose tenets they had strayed.

L. RON HUBBARD "The dispute in this case surrounds (Arnaldo) Lerma's acquisition and publication on the Internet of texts that the Church of Scientology considers sacred and protects heavily from unauthorized disclosure. "Founded by L. Ron Hubbard, the Scientology religion attempts to explain the origin of negative spiritual forces in the world, and advances techniques for improving one's own spiritual well-being. "Scientologists believe that most human problems can be traced to lingering spirits of an extraterrestrial people massacred by their ruler, Xenu, over 75 million years ago. These spirits attach themselves by "clusters" to individuals in the contemporary world, causing spiritual harm and negatively influencing the lives of their hosts. "The texts at issue, 'Advanced Technology,' or the 'Operating Thetan Documents' (OT Documents), were written by founder Hubbard and allegedly provide a detailed program for warding off these evil influences through creation of 'free zones.'
