" The term " dynamic two " within Dianetics normally refers to the human urge to procreate. Ellis and Krafft-Ebing were two early researchers into human sexuality. One year later, in 1951, Hubbard published " Science of Survival: Prediction of Human Behavior ."

    Part XVI
SCIENTOLOGY by Jack Nation, ThM, Pastor (ret.) BEGAN
: In 1954. Scientology is a religious movement based on the teachings of the American writer and visionary L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard won prominence with his book "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" (1950), in which he outlined a form of therapy for curing emotional and psychosomatic illnesses and enhancing life. WORLDWIDE MEMBERSHIP CHURCH GOVERNMENT : A tight knit circle of committed adherents, with numerous "auditors" and "counselors" to assure understanding and practice of Scientology's secrets of the "Thetan" and "Dianetics." MAJOR DOCTRINAL EMPHASIS : Subjects were trained by therapists called "auditors", to increase the power of the conscious mind and subdue the influence of "engrams", which are painful impressions of past experiences that confuse the "reactive", or unconscious, mind. Hubbard's work took on a religious dimension with the publication of Science of Survival (1951), which explained the religious philosophy of Scientology. Scientology teaches that human beings are immortal spirits called Thetans, which is derived from the Greek word theta, meaning life. It also practices a ritual known as auditing. A device called an "E-meter" is used to guide individuals during auditing and help them to locate precise areas of spiritual difficulty.

Foremost is that his work will be thorough, fair and honest, and free from preconceptions offered as conclusions. One can hardly imagine a scholar writing about Judaism, but not speaking to any Jews. Or doing a dissertation on the Lutherans, but never attending one of their services. What would you think of someone who claimed a close knowledge of Catholicism based on his conversations w ith excommunicates? And if he insisted that his lack of first-hand information was an asset, not a liability, and yet he had only negative things to say, you would probably label him biased, at least. Certainly, you would doubt his being the disintereste d seeker after truth that is traditionally the mark of the scholar.

The Church of Scientology is a religious cult which has unwisely decided to declare war against the Usenet and Internet communities. Since December of 1994, this Church and its followers have committed numerous acts that are hostile to the spirit of free speech on the Net. This web page is intended to document these activities.
    NOTICE TO READERS
My apologies for the length of time this page has been unavailable to the Net , and even more apologies for the fact that I've not substantially updated it since October 15, 1996. I'm no longer able to keep up with events on a day-to-day basis, so this site is probably going to have to remain a "historical" document rather than a source of up-to-date news. For a more conscientiously updated site, I recommend Andreas Heldal-Lund's Operation Clambake page, which contains both later news and pointers to many of Scientology's Secret Scriptures. Many of you may be wondering why I'm no longer at Cybercom.net. The reason is that on May 15, 1997, Cybercom deleted my account, all my web pages, and all of my private files, without any notice whatsoever. I had to file a lawsuit to get my files back and my mail and web pages forwarded. For more information, visit this page:

    Scientology critic won't face retrial
Prosecutors decide to drop a marijuana charge after jurors, concerned about church influence, deadlock.
By DEBORAH O'NEIL CLEARWATER When the two-day misdemeanor trial of Scientology critic Jesse Prince ended Thursday, jurors had little doubt he had possessed marijuana as the state charged. What bothered some of them, according to two jurors, was the possibility that Prince had been set up by the Church of Scientology. They heard testimony about how Prince, once a high-ranking church member, was watched, videotaped and trailed for months by private investigators hired by Scientology lawyers. Private investigator Barry Gaston said he was hired because he is black, like Prince, and befriended Prince using a false name. Gaston said he was paid $14,000 for his work.

    The first attack - 1995
In early February, 1995, lawyers for the Church of Scientology somehow used Interpol and the Finnish police to demand the True Name of a user of anon.penet.fi , an anonymous remailer in Finland. Julf Helsingius, the administrator of anon.penet.fi , announced this in a Usenet message to many newsgroups on February 18, 1995. He followed this with a press release on February 21. The Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat covered the story on February 18; this was soon followed by the Associated Press Time magazine , and a "Postcard from Cyberspace" column from Dan Akst in the February 22 Los Angeles Times The user whose name the Church sought from anon.penet.fi

The site has been completely removed from the search engine and from the Google Directory, which uses data from the Open Directory Project, DMOZ A spokesman for Google was unable to tell Daily Rotten why or how the site had been removed, explaining that many staffers were away at an offsite meeting. The spokesman did not return our phone calls today. Controversy first arose in February when a widely linked article reported on the Church of Scientology's supremacy over the search term Scientology . The author documents the manipulation of pro-Scientology website placement in Google. He suggests that using a network of cross-linked Scientology related websites with listings in the DMOZ directory, their collective Google "PageRank" was artificially inflated. Thus any websites critical of Scientology did not appear on the first page of search results for the term "Scientology". It was also suspected that a volunteer DMOZ editor and Scientologist, charged with maintaining the Scientology category may have been responsible for adding a great number of the shill sites, in an apparent violation of DMOZ policy.

What is the Task Force for Responsibility and Freedom on the Internet?
    Answers
    (part 1)
While Scientologists respect the religious beliefs of others, the Scientology religion includes the core belief and practice that the spiritual destiny indeed, the very salvation of every man, woman, and child in the universe depends upon the precise application of Scientology religious technology exactly as set forth in Scientology scripture by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the religion. The advanced scriptures of the Church have been confidential scriptures from the moment the information they contain was discovered and recorded in writing by Mr. Hubbard (see "Why does the Church keep certain of its scriptures confidential?"). Mr. Hubbard created these works for religious use by a few advanced Scientology churches and their parishioners, only when those parishioners had attained a specific level of spiritual progress. It is also far from unprecedented for religious organizations to go to court to defend the purity of their message and materials. Among religions which have done so are the Methodist Church, the Church of Christ, Scientist and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

That public interest in Scientology is mounting rapidly is undeniable. This volume was first compiled in 1992 to fill the demand for a concise reference on Scientology. In the seven years since then, the explosive growth of Scientology churches, missions and groups around the world has necessitated the publication of this updated and expanded edition.
While continued expansion will inevitably change the numbers once again, much will remain constant, including, of course, the technology of Scientology and its effect upon all it touches. To provide an understanding of this phenomenon, contained herein is a complete description of Scientology: its religious philosophy, its practices, its organization, its activities and its growing influence on society.

Welcome to the Church of Scientology Los Angeles
For nearly 50 years, churches of Scientology and their members have involved themselves in actively solving the problems of society. Today, we can look back proudly at the past five decades. The Scientology religion now encompasses more than 3,200 churches, missions and groups in 154 countries, helping millions around the world. When it opened its doors on February 18, 1954, the Church of Scientology in Los Angeles began as a thinly-staffed group who, nevertheless, wanted to deliver life-changing technology to others and help him achieve the goal of a new civilization. As word about the miracle results of technology spread, and as his organizational policy was issued and implemented, the Los Angeles church grew. It moved to larger and larger facilities to accommodate its growing congregation.
