About this page

The Church of Scientology is a commercial enterprise that masquerades as a religion, and that increasingly acts like a hate group . Scientology has a long history of hate and harassment activities, which - along with lying and deception - are condoned and encouraged in the cult's own ''scriptures.'' (See, for example, its '' dead agenting '' and '' fair game '' policies). This is why Apologetics Index classifies the organization as a hate group

The piece was awarded the Gerald Loeb Award for distinguished business and financial journalism, the Worth Bingham Prize and the Conscience in Media Awards from the American Society of Journalists and Authors. By republishing it into the digital domain of the Usenet we hope to confer a kind of immortality on it that Scientology never does on either the perpetrators or victims of its crimes. Born and raised in New Zealand, I now live in Los Angeles, where I work as the Media Relations Director for the Church of Scientology International, the mother church of the Scientology religion. In the last sixteen years, I have worked in public relations for the Church, first in New Zealand, then internationally. Although I am based in Los Angeles , I travel widely, both within and outside the United States. Recently, I have found from talking to people and reading what appears on the Internet that a strong desire exists on the Net for information about Scientology. That is why I have erected this home page. What is Scientology? Briefly, it is a religion founded by author, philosopher and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. But until you check it out for yourself, you won't really know. The easiest way to do this is online at the official Scientology Internet Site Further information is available at Churches of Scientology which exist in most major cities in the United States and in many cities and towns in Europe, Africa, Great Britain, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Religious Technology Center v. Netcom
In 1968, Dennis Erlich became a member of the Church of Scientology - a forty-year old religion founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard . Scientologists, who claim Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Anne Archer among their members, follow a course of religious study called "auditing." The course begins with analysis by an "electro-psychometer," which purports to measure mental state. The goal of the program is to eliminate negative images ("engrams") and attain a state of "clear."

Gordon Melton needs no introduction. He is among the foremost experts on new and nonconventional religions. Few scholars understand Scientology better than Melton, and his expertise is evident in this crisp, cogent study of one of the world's fastest growing religions.
Scientology emerged in the early 1950s as a movement that found its inspiration in the voluminous writings of L. Ron Hubbard (1911-1986). Hubbard's seminal work

The Creed of Scientology:
Scientology, in their creed basically say: (in our words not theirs)
  • We believe in free speech, that others should be able to criticize us openly without threat of legal action. That man’s own spirit alone, without divine help, can heal the body and the spirit of man can be saved by the spirit alone without the assistance of God. That all men, of every race, sex, colour or creed were created with equal rights and have inalienable rights to their own religious practices and their performances, lives, sanity, defense, and free thought in themselves and the free thought of others. That man is a survivor who is basically good, who must depend only upon man for his survival without God. It is wrong to kill or enslave another man, or his sanity.

"Religious Freedom and the New Millenium"
Washington DC, April 17-19, 1998 I refer to Freedom for Religions in Germany as FRG. You may notice the pun as the former acronym of the Federal Republic of Germany. FRG was formed to address the serious religious freedom abuses being suffered by minority religions at the hands of German officials. It was originally conceived by the Human Rights Department of the Church of Scientology International and has been joined by members of over 10 religious faiths, including Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, Unificationist, Protestant, and Buddhist. The purpose of FRG is to bring the attention of world institutions to the abuses of religious freedom in modern-day Germany; to give small minority religions a voice, initiate fact-finding missions, expose abuses, issue reports, seek dialogue and resolution of these abuses, and encourage various government bodies to assist in bringing resolution to these problems. One of the largest obstacles that religious freedom faces in Germany is the German government’s denial that there is any religious discrimination. This statement is from the vice-chancellor in the Foreign Ministry, Klaus Kinkle: “If the German government continues to deny this, it makes it patently impossible to handle the situation and more lives become ruined while the German government debates its own integrity. That integrity is in serious doubt to the rest of the international community. Germany is a signatory to a number of international treaties and accords, which guarantee religious freedom of belief and association to the citizens of Germany. Among these are the

History of Clearwater from its Native American culture before conquest by Spain to the eve of the Civil War. Presented by Freedom Magazine Voice of the church of scientology in Clearwater. (Part 16)
http://clearwaterhistory-beginnings.theflaglandbase.org
The many responses to Freedom magazine (published by the Church of Scientology) from local Clearwater residents show that our readers are interested in Clearwater and want to know more about it. Many residents expressed an interest in the colorful history of our city. Thus, Freedom magazine printed a multi-part series on the history of Clearwater, covering the discovery of what became known as Clear Water Harbor by early settlers through World War II. Because of the overwhelmingly popularity of that series, we are reprinting it in full on these web sites. The first settlers who came to Clear Water Harbor, as it later was known, found the climate gentle and refreshing, game plentiful in the woodlands and the scenery tranquil.
Gently purling from its harbor, a sulfated spring left the Gulf waters dazzling and translucent along the coastline. To fish off its shores, the first visitors to the area may have journeyed from the south, or sailed from nearby isles, or even wandered down from the northern land bridge which once spanned the continents. While no one quite knows from whence they came, the earliest settlers by Clear Water Harbor, as it came to be known, found the climate gentle and refreshing, game plentiful in the woodlands and the scenery tranquil. They were the Mound Builders, called that because they left great mounds of mollusk shells behind.

Conference on
"Religious Freedom in Latin America and the New Millennium"
October 10-12, 1998, Sheraton Mofarrej Hotel, Sao Paolo, Brazil I have to tell you just a little bit about the discrimination against our church over the years. The religion of Scientology was founded by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard in the early 1950s. We now have about eight million members around the world and churches and missions in about 100 countries. As a new religion, we have experienced a lot of abuse and discrimination over the years from those who are anti-religious and those that have originated and passed false information in an effort to suppress our religion. The discrimination has come in various forms. In the United States it has come from the government agencies that have conducted raids upon our church and spread false information. As a result, our members from foreign countries were not allowed to enter the United States during the 1970s. This was greatly relieved in 1993 when the Internal Revenue Service formally recognized our church as a religion and we became tax exempt. In England in the 1960s, all foreign Scientologists attempting to enter that country were banned. Fortunately the ban was lifted several years later. In Australia, Scientology was banned from one of the states. In 1983, the Supreme Court of Australia recognized not only the Church of Scientology , but also 500 other religions in that country.
