HOME TIME AND SPACE PREHISTORY MESOPOTAMIA ... Islam Christianity Christianity is based of the teachings of Jesus Christ, a Jew who lived about 2000 years ago in what we now call Israel. Jesus taught his followers to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
The followers of Jesus called him Christ. Christ is a Greek word that means, "chosen one." They believed he was the son of God. In time followers of Jesus became known as Christians. Early Christians taught that the sins of the people would be forgiven if they became Christian.
Some years after Jesus died, Christians combined the stories of the life and wisdom of Jesus into four books known as Gospels. Gospel means "good news." The holy book of Christianity is known as the Bible and has two parts. The Old Testament consists of the sacred writings of the Jewish people, and was written mostly in Hebrew long before Jesus. The New Testament of the Bible includes the Gospels, along with letters by Christian writers. The Bible has been translated into more than 1,500 languages and has been read by more people than any other book.
Almost two billion Christians live on every continent. They comprise the majority of people living in the United States and Canada (86%), Latin America (92%), Europe (76%) and Australia (85%). Christianity is also the most prevalent faith in Africa (48%). Christianity is a dominant force on every continent but Asia (9%). Most of the world's population is in Asia, so only one-third of the world's population is Christian.

I f it could be shown to you through solid and persuasive evidence that God created the universe and everything in it, would you believe it? Featuring an impressive cast of world-class scientists and scholars, Foolish Faith exposes the failure of mainstream science to answer the ever-present question of where we came from — unveiling a surprising store of controversial facts that support the existence of God, but are largely ignored by the media. Beginning with a fast-paced trail through the origins of the world’s major religions, followed by a provoking pursuit through the reasoning of modern science, this book’s easy-to-understand arguments will bring you face-to-face with seven tremendous facts that will propel you to rediscover the truth about God’s place in the world today.
N EWS: M el G ibson's new film, "The Passion of The Christ," has become one of the hottest controversial movies in Motion Picture history. Some (including many in the media) allege the film, based on the Bible's New Testament, is historically inaccurate. But the full scope of the evidence paints a different picture.
Foolish Faith is one of the most complete and up-to-date examinations of the historical evidence surrounding Jesus' death and resurrection. Based on the world's most reputable sources, this book provides powerful insights into what really took place two thousand years ago.

Christianity Constantine and Constantinople Christianity Most of the people who lived near Jerusalem were Jewish. The Romans were pag ans, but they allowed the Jews to practice their faith and did not force them worship Roman gods. About AD30, a holy man named Jesus began to attract a following in the Roman province of Judea. Judea is part of the modern nation of Israel. His followers came to believe that Jesus was the son of the God of the Jews and that he performed miracles. The followers of Jesus angered Roman authorities because they refused to follow either Jewish or Roman laws. The authorities arrested and crucified Jesus. Three days after his execution, Jesus' followers said they saw him risen from the dead.
The followers of Jesus called him Christ. Christ is a Greek word that means "chosen one," because they believed he was chosen by God to be his messenger. In time the followers of Jesus became known as Christians. The Christians taught that people's sins would be forgiven if they became Christian. This message was not successful with many Jews, but many pagans responded to the idea of Christian salvation.
Many fervent believers carried the message of Jesus throughout the Roman Empire. One of the most successful was a Greek-speaking Jew named Paul of Tarsus, known to Christians as Saint Paul. As a young man, he helped to persecute Christians, but one day he had a vision in which he believed Jesus spoke to him from heaven. Paul spent the rest of his life thinking and writing about Christianity and winning new converts to the faith. Through the persistence of Paul and other Christian missionaries, small Christian communities developed throughout the Roman Empire.

An analysis of the similarities and differences between Pure Land Buddhism and christianity, by Rev. Philipp Karl Eidmann.
    http://www.seattlebetsuin.com/Is_Shin_Buddhism_the_same_as_Christianity.htm
Is Shin Buddhism the same as Christianity? by Rev. Philipp Karl Eidmann In the sixteenth century European Christian missionaries first came to China and Japan. In meeting the Buddhists of China and Japan, the missionaries saw many things that reminded them of Christianity. They saw similarities in the Buddhist and Christian services. They thought they also saw similarities in Christian and Buddhist books and doctrines. The early Christian missionaries were disturbed by these apparent similarities. They decided that Satan had invented a counterfeit Christianity to lead people astray and to keep them from following the true Christian teachings. Later scholars discovered that in ancient days there had been Nestorian Christian churches in China. After this discovery, some Westerners came to believe that the similarities between Buddhism and Christianity were the result of the influence of Nestorian Christians. Many Christians have thought they saw ancient Christian influence in the teachings of every sect of Buddhism. However, they have always held that this influence was strongest in the teachings of the Pure Realm schools of China and Japan. There are a number of schools and sects which follow the Pure Realm doctrines. They differ in many minor respects, but they are all based upon the same scriptures and commentaries. About one-half of the Buddhists of China and Japan are followers of these schools.

    What's new
    Preface
Over the years I have come to know and know of many ex-Christians most of whom were well-churched, their numbers including former ministers, apologists, missionaries, theologians etc. Why should such people leave Christianity? These people are the best versed in Christianity and yet they leave despite so much personal and professional investment in their religion, enjoyment of their time as believing Christians and social pressures to stay. How can this happen if the evidence for Christianity is so good? If supernatural Christianity is true, shouldn't they have known better? But what if the history and philosophical and moral implications of the various branches of Christianity are very different from that which is traditionally taught? The painful fact for many Christians is that through research and thinking this is the conclusion to which they often come. Why else should all these people leave, contrary to their world-view, culture, professions, and heavy investment in Christianity? Why would God go to the trouble of incarnation and crucifixion only to allow genuine seekers to find Christianity untenable, or give "spurious" experiences and "incorrect" interpretation to those who spend so many years trying to be Christians? From our research and testimonies it is apparent that Christianity is not what we once thought it was. I hope that these collected stories and resources will be of comfort to new deconverts. There is no "exit counselling" from the church and usually our Christian friends just want to find out "where we went wrong" rather than really listen and explore with us. It can be a great thrill to find fellow travellers in what is usually a very lonely journey with often few or no sympathetic people to turn to. I thought I was the first to deconvert from a genuine heartfelt Christianity until I discovered a few hints in books, some friends with similar stories and then the voluminous accounts on the Internet!
