Mr. Boneham’s career in dance began in 1949 with The Mercury Ballet Co. in Rochester, New York. Six years later he moved to New York City where he worked with William Dollar Concert Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera Ballet and the Baltimore Civic Ballet, and performed musical comedies on Broadway, Summer Stock, at Radio City Music Hall, and nightclubs in the famous Latin Quarter. Petronio has been awarded choreography fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) from 1985 through 1988, and company grants from the NEA and the New York State Council on the Arts since 1988. In 1994 the company was chosen to receive funding for the NEA Advancement Program. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, a New York Foundation for the Arts Award, the first American Choreographers Award in 1987 and a Bessie (New York Dance and Performance Award) for Walk-In in 1986.
