The one constant presence in creations of those scenes was the Choreographer. After choreographers read the script to a play, ballet, or musical, they are responsible for developing routines and dance movements that convey the feeling and emotion of the story. Death, love, anger, joy, remorse, suspense are several of the emotions shown on stage or screen. Choreographers need to be good communicators because they have to teach actors/dancers routines that bring the production and it's message to life. Although choreographers have to know a great deal about movement, they do not have to be top-notch dancers themselves. Choreographers spend many hours rehearsing with dancers/actors until every movement is perfect. When ready, they join the rest of the cast and the choreographer is responsible for making sure exits and entrances flow and stage positions are correct. Choreographers' jobs end on opening night and then they look for another production to choreograph.

http://dance.fsu.edu/program_elements/ncc.html
The Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (NCC) Position Announcement (PDF) - NCC Director The Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography is both a site and a state of mind. As a site, it will contain state of the art facilities, including 8 dance studios, 2 theaters, production facilities, recording capabilities, body training facilities and up-to-date technology. Full time staff will support choreographers in the creation and sustenance of their work. The National Center for Choreography will also be a place of creativity where choreography is nurtured and developed. Programs and services of the NCC will be artist-centered and determined by the needs and preferences of choreographers. The NCC will be a research center affiliated with the FSU Department of Dance whose values will include:
WHO WILL BENEFIT?
First and foremost, the NCC is intended to benefit choreographers at all stages of their careers. Emerging, established, mid-career, and master choreographers will all be able to access and benefit from the NCC. The assumptions are that the center will be a place where a choreographer can find support to make, refine, and document new work.
Secondly, the center will benefit the early career dancer both at Florida State as well as at other university training programs. By access and association with master choreographers, students will learn first hand from those artists about the art of choreography. In some cases, students might be the palettes upon which new work is made. They might also serve as assistants and documenters for experienced choreographers.

The Righting Dance Programme The Righting Dance Programme is a series of special dance projects devised through close collaboration with dance artists and choreographers and providing a conducive environment in which to carry out personal research and creative experimentation. Its focus is to research and develop a choreographic language. This programme responds directly to the needs of Irish/ Irish based choreographers-established or emerging-offering the possibility of mentor programmes to the former and of apprenticeship schemes to the latter, in addition to theoretical discussion, interdisciplinary research projects and critical appraisal and evaluation. In creating Righting Dance, icd consulted with people operating comparable models, such as Le Group Dance Lab, Ottowa and Dance Xchange, Birmingham. Through this choreographic and performance research programme, icd has contributed to the professional formation of a number of Irish dance makers.
ER: Emerging/Re-Emerging is icd's most recent model for stimulating choreographic practice. Devised in collaboration with Bessie-award winning choreographer, teacher and dance writer Susan Rethorst, the project allows both emerging and established choreographers to come together to examine issues, work methodologies and individual goals in a unique, practice-centred environment. ER began in August 2002 with a 2 week workshop and reconvenes in October 02 and into Spring 03. ER may lead onto independent projects but the main aim is to establish conditions for a collective engagement with forms of experimental questioning
