Publishing Children's Writing. ERIC Digest.
THIS DIGEST WAS CREATED BY ERIC, THE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES INFORMATION CENTER. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ERIC, CONTACT ACCESS ERIC 1-800-LET-ERIC To make writing public, the writer must have an audience. The audience becomes the writer's stimulusthe purpose for writing. If children do not have a purpose for writing (i.e., an intended audience) then writing becomes an "exercise" for a non-communicative event. Children who have not published do not write for an audience, but instead write for a critical readerthe teacher. Publishing for early writers may mean reading their writing to teachers, a group of children, a friend, or a parent. Publication may mean showing or displaying the work. Writing can be displayed on bulletin boards, on classroom walls or in the halls, mailed to pen pals, sent home, or published in "real" book form. Publishing "real" books is a child-centered production, where the child designs the book cover and illustrates the book, has a dedication and title page, and may even have a page written "about the author." Students model bookmaking just like real authors.

M innie and Mickey were very sad. I t's all because the family had to move to a big city. G athering up all of their favorite toys, and leaving some for their parents to give away. P acking away their clothes very slowly. H elping their mother pack all the dishes. T hey helped their father clean out his garage. W atching their mother and father load everything up in a big truck. T hey did not want to leaveleaving their friends behind. G oing to a new school. M innie and Mickey didn't want to go. C ome on children, get up in the van. Your father and I are ready to go. T ears flowing their cheeks. I t's going to be okay guys; God is taking care of us. Y our father has a new job, and we have a much larger house. W hen they arrived. Their mother and father had the delivery drivers-unload the truck. A fter settling in, one evening! Minnie and Mickey asked their mother why were the kids and everyone else, so different. W hat do you mean, different, asked Mickey?

Childrens Writers Word Book > Customer Review #1: A thesaurus/dictionary?

This title is exactly what it is: a thesaurus/dictionary designed for children readers. If you expect anything else from the book you will be disappointed. I was mislead by the title when I read the reviews prior to the purchase. As soon as I got the book and opened it, I realized immediately it wasnt the book that I expected. Also, the book available now appears to be a new edition. The book I am referring to must be the prior edition.
Caveat emptor: no matter what book or item you opt to buy, if at all possible, go to your local store and check the item there first before committing to an order. It saves you from a headache.
