Children's Booksellers on the Internet
This is a selective and highly subjective list of online bookstores. I haven't purchased from many of these firms; my recommendations are based solely on the quality of information about children's books that is available on their web sites. In preparing this list, I was looking online bookstores that offer recommendations, reviews, and background information we can use to promote children's books, whether or not we actually buy anything. In cases where I list a general interest bookstore, the link has been made (wherever possible) to the "Children's Department." Other booksellers will be noted on the CLWG News page as I become aware of them. indicates an Internet resource that in my opinion is particularly valuable.

    PAPER
Before we start discussing our children's literature, it is essential to take a look into the history of literature with its connections to sociological and political developments. Professor Meral Alpay, in her article Turkish Children's Publication/Yesterday and Today ( ) divides the history of literature in Turkey into two main turning points. One of these is the acceptance of Islam by the Turkish population and the second is the influence of the West. According to Alpay, the diffusion of Islam into Turkish life helped an Islamic civilization to settle down and develop. The Westernization process had an influence on political, social, cultural and economical features. According to Alpay, we can group the history of literature in Turkey in three main historical periods:
  • Turkish literature until the acceptance of Islam.
  • Turkish literature under the influence of Islam.

Nations can have literatures, as can corporations, philosophical schools or historical periods.
