button One of the things that gives me the most troulble is search engines. Whether it be Yahoo, Infoseek, Excite, or Lycos, I just can't resist. At this site, which is a link from one of the sites on our web page (that's not important!) is a search engine on the "Ancient World"...ooh!... I used this to help me determine where some of the religions of the world originated and where they have spread. From this link, for example, I can type "Greece + Religion" and get 301 sites with info on this subject. Granted, I could probably do this from lycos or infoseek, but this search engine is specifically for Ancient World History. All the other junk will be filtered. I actually stayed on-line for a while exploring the various links. As a matter of fact, I stayed on so long that I could not get back to the Literature for Children and Youth Home page by pressing "Back" on my browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer Rules!).72

Introduction: ATN Book Lists has grown significantly since its birth in 1996. There are now well over 800 lists on the site! This has made keeping this index page manageable a very hard task. I am currently rethinking how to organzie this page. In the meantime, if you have trouble finding a particular list, you may want to utilize the "Find on page" link in your browser. Simply go to the "Edit" menu, choose "Find in page" and then you can type your search term.

Through the Eyes of a Child: An Introduction to Childrens Literature (6th Edition) > Customer Review #1: Thorough course in literature for children

I just got finished using this book for a course in Childrens Literature, and it was extremely informative. Since I am interested in childrens literature (to read, and possibly to write), it was great to find out about all the different facets of literature for children, from historical childrens lit, to multicultural lit, to award-winning literature. If you are a teacher and havent taken a course on childrens literature, this book is a must-read (it even includes helps for the classroom at the end of each chapter). If you want to write for children, check this out its a veritable goldmine of information to get your book noticed and published.

Children and Books (9th Edition) > Customer Review #1: Outstanding summary and reference book for Kid Lit.

I have used the past four editions for a childrens lit course for several years. The first five chapters provide an overvierw of approaching kid lit and a history of the field and its illustrators. The remainder has summaries of some 2000 books in various genres, areas and age ranges. The greatest aspect, and terrific for teaching or discussion, are the highlighted/boxed commentaries by various authors and experts. The appendices have lists of awards as well as short discussions on other media, getting kids and books together and censorship (boo, hiss.) A great text and invaluable resource.

Cullinan and Galdas Literature and the Child With Infotrac: College Edition > Customer Review #1: not the best

This book was the required text for my Childrens Lit class. I found it to be very dull and boring to read. Very little coverage is given to the different kinds of awards. Series books are shunned by Galda and Cullinan. The sections on the various genres do a very poor job of explaining each genre in a concise way. The section on Historical fiction is the worst of the lot. The lists at the end of the book have a tendency to be somewhat confusing, and the milestones section left off way too many good books. I also felt that the authors paid to much attention to Harry Potter and not enough attention to other childrens literature. The authors need to realize that not all children want to read classics. Overall, this is a boring, dry textbook that spends to much quality time on Harry Potter. The authors need to broaden thier horizons.
