Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Children's and Adolescents' Mental Health: Like adults, children and adolescents can have mental health disorders that interfere with the way they think, feel, and act. Mental health influences the ways individuals look at themselves, their lives, and others in their lives. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life. Child, Adolescent and Family Programs: The Child, Adolescent, and Family Branch of the Federal Center for Mental Health Services promotes and ensures that the mental health needs of children and their families are met within the context of community-based systems of care. Systems of care are developed on the premise that the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and their families can be met within their home, school, and community environments. CHF Public Policy, Education and Advocacy Activities
Mission
Since its creation in 1987, The Children’s Health Fund has strongly advocated for the right of every child to have access to comprehensive, quality health care in a “medical home” setting. Recognizing that substantial access barriers prevent millions of American children from getting the medical care they need and deserve, CHF supports strategic efforts to educate health care policy makers and the public about important child health issues. Building effective coalitions with health policy experts, child health advocacy groups, health provider organizations and the private sector, CHF has become one of the nation’s leading voices in child health advocacy. The effectiveness of CHF’s policy and advocacy work derives from the unique way in which CHF clinical experience in the field directly informs and shapes the CHF agenda. Background Over the years, CHF has campaigned in support of increased health insurance for low-income children and maintenance of public health programs that provide a critical safety net for millions of medically underserved children. CHF has worked in partnership with the executive and congressional branches of government in response to concerns about health care, homelessness, asthma, nutrition and obesity, and immunizations. In 1994, CHF launched Kids First, Kids Now!
