Indicators of the health and well-being of children and families in the United States also suggest that children are in better health today than ever before. And yet, it remains the case that many children continue to face obstacles, including poverty, violence, child abuse, limited educational opportunities and unhealthy behaviors, that obscure their bright futures. The devastating economic, social and human costs of these obstacles are indisputable. Moreover, these children also tend to be at increased risk for a wide range of physical, emotional, social, cognitive and other health and developmental problems. Overview
The purpose of this research brief is to provide guidance for state child care agencies as they think about revising their state child care regulations. The brief is based upon a synthesis of literature around the health and safety standards for out-of-home child care found in Stepping Stones to Using Caring for Our Children Licensing Curriculum developed by the National Association for Regulatory Administration. These methodologies constitute the most researched tools for conducting inferential inspections by licensing agencies.

Pediatric farm injury prevention literature examined
"A Systematic Review of Prevention Strategies for Childhood Farm Injuries" reveals a dearth of high-quality literature, and offers recommendations for future areas of research. The scientific review was commissioned by Safe Kids Canada and carried out by a team from Queen's University, Kingston, Ont., and the Alberta Research Centre for Child Health Evidence, University of Alberta. "As a knowledge transfer organization, Safe Kids Canada wanted to link research to practice, and this systematic review provides a firm basis on which researchers and programmers can move forward," said Pamela Fuselli, Safe Kids Canada. "The key learning from this work is that no evaluated programs have thus far addressed the major causes of young children's farm-related injury." The project grew out of a North American Guidelines for Children's Agricultural Tasks (NAGCAT) long-range planning meeting in Santa Fe, NM, in 2001. One of the primary advisors recommended that someone should assemble existing literature surrounding NAGCAT and similar prevention initiatives aimed at farm children.

Safety Standards
Hoteliers and suppliers should meet local and national safety standards, however these vary widely across the programme and rarely match those standards that we enjoy in the UK, only a minority of hotels and apartments meet European Commission recommendations on fire safety. We nevertheless seek to raise standards in all of our destinations.
You will receive a Safety First leaflet on arrival in resort, please take a few minutes of your time to familiarise yourself with the information that it contains. back to top
Health and Hygiene
We promote good hygiene practices within hotels, but the hygiene standards in some foreign countries, particularly developing destinations, are generally much lower than in the UK. Care should be taken to minimise the risk of holiday sickness, especially among pregnant women, infants and the elderly.
Your GP can provide you with up-to-date health advice and we recommend that you consult your doctor well in advance before travelling.
