Mitakuye oyasin! We are all related! It isn't too late. We still have time to recreate and change the value system of the present. We must! Survival will depend on it. Our Earth is our original mother. She is in deep labor now. There will be a new birth soon! The old value system will suffer and die. It cannot survive as our mother earth strains under the pressure put on her. She will not let man kill her. The First Nation's Peoples had a value system. We are the Alpha Couple in charge of this Burrow. We've organized the Burrow's documents into the following bottom-up hierarchy:
Documents web pages.
We've collected a number of documents that deal with the cultural and spiritual aspects of some of the indigenous people of North America. These might be written on paper or on pieces of bison hide. Most of these documents are meant to be read individually, but a few are part of a longer "article" and should be read sequentially. We'll always tell you which kind they are.
Sections subject matter containers.
Documents are divided into Sections. They allow us to organize various Books by subject matter. Most of the Documents are bound in leather straps and stored in large pottery jars. The jars allow us to protect the documents from the weather. Some single page documents are placed in cardboard boxes and stored on wood shelves. Some sections have more documents than others.

ANTH 310: INTRO LECTURE [Autumn 2002] Welcome to ANTH 310, "Native North American Societies" Today I want to cover 3 things:
2. access to readings
3. course requirements
Focus of Course
People we study are termed "Native Americans" or "First Nations" to distinguish from more recent immigrants (Euro-Americans, Afro-Americans, etc.) "Native American" is a more inclusive term than "Indian," since latter does not include Aleuts & Eskimos Focus of course is on "traditional" societies that is, NNA (Native North American) societies as they existed at or near European contact, or while still politically independent Thus, we do not go into detail on precontact history (covered by ARCHY courses) Neither do we focus on post-contact history or contemporary Native Amer situation (for which, see courses in Amer. Indian Studies) Despite these omissions, left with huge amount of material on trad. NNA societies Main goal of this course is to provide you with an understanding of, and appreciation for, the diversity Thus, despite common stereotype of an "American Indian way of life," ethnographic record reveals tremendous sociocultural diversity at time of European contact
