More British Chess Web Sites! Why set up on the web? The author really hopes that this club site inspires other UK chess organisations to get onto the web. Here are a few justifications why the web is an interesting medium for chess (Please feel free to bring up these points in your club's annual general meeting!) .....
    • Chess games are essentially information... as such they can be distributed on the web which itself is essentially an information sharing medium. It has never been easier to share the chess news of your local area with the world and at the same time promote chess in your area! The two best British examples (**) are The Week In Chess by Mark Crowther, and the 4NCL web site by John Saunders Minimal costs, Maximum audience... Web sites offer a way of displaying up-to date information with minimal distribution costs. See for example the report on the Drury Lane Grandmasters . This happened to be a tournament walking distance from where I work, and as such it was easy for me to report on it with the kind assistance of the tournament organiser Adam Raoof. Its getting easier and easier !.... The tools and resources and better for developing web sites. It does not have to consume a great deal of time and it will not cost the earth. See the

Websites which the Britweb webmaster personally feels are exceptional and in some way inspirational are highlighted with a Wow! indicator. The idea is to drive Britweb websites forward through emphasising great examples which others can be motivated by. But the people behind every website should be given credit for representing their club and association on the web - Well done to all :-)

    Visitors:
Welcome to CHB's website. We are a support group of Christian homeschoolers in the bluegrass area. We exist to serve the population in Lexington, Kentucky, and surrounding counties. CHB is a member-driven group, meaning our members are key in deciding which activities we offer and what events we host. Members are also key in the election of board members. Our board members are committed to coming alongside the membership of CHB and together charting a course for our group. We are a support group. We believe your children's education and your family's homeschooling experience are exponentially enhanced by being involved with other Christian homeschooling families. To that end we have a mentoring program that will begin its second year this fall. We also offer several opportunities for social gatherings for the Moms and Dads during the school year. Through field trips, special events, bees, contests, community service projects, and a newly expanded senior high program, we are working side by side to meet the needs and desires of the members of our group. If you would like further information about CHB, feel free to contact any (or all!) board members listed on this website.

At its simple level, chess is a game: it's fun and entertaining. For this reason alone, it has obvious appeal for children and young adults. However, chess has real advantages over other forms of entertainment. It is inexpensive and available everywhere
Despite its intellectual nature, chess in extremely social game; it is built upon human interaction and demands honesty and mutual respect.
Like a sport, chess appeals to our competitive instincts. Unlike other scholastic sports, however, chess demands no physical prowess beyond mental stamina, and is therefore equally accessible to all types of children. It is also one of the few "sports" in which young girls are perceived as being equal to young boys. Chess' highly competitive aspects draw many outstanding athletes to the game.
