General information. History.
It is in 1875 that a lecture course in inorganic chemistry was for the first time delivered at the Moscow State University by Professor V. V. Markovnikov. At the same time at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Moscow University was founded the Inorganic Chemistry Division which was later transformed into a separate Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the MSU Faculty of Chemistry . During different periods the Department was headed by prominent Russian scientists N.S.Kurnakov, E.F. Krause, V.I. Spitsin. Since 1988 the Department is headed by Full Member of the Russian Academy of Science, Professor Yu. D. Tretyakov. During the past years the members of the teaching and scientific staff of the department have made great efforts in organization and improvement of teaching in order to prepare highly qualified specialists able to solve complex theoretical and experimental problems. As a specific feature of the teaching at the Department there could ever been mentioned the combination of the profound theoretical education in main topics with experimental training in the practical laboratories and with own scientific research.

Related Category: Chemistry, General solution, in chemistry, homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. The dissolving medium is called the solvent , and the dissolved material is called the solute. A solution is distinct from a colloid or a suspension In most common solutions, the solvent is a liquid, often water, and the solute may be a solid, gas, or liquid. For example, syrups are solutions of sugar, a solid, in water, a liquid; household ammonia is a solution of ammonia gas in water; and vinegar is a solution of acetic acid, a liquid, in water. When two liquids, e.g., water and ethanol, can be mixed in any proportions, the solvent is commonly considered to be the one present in greater proportion. Some alloys are solutions of one solid in another, as are many rocks. A mixture of gases, such as air, is usually not thought of as a solution. Sections in this article:
