PERU ECUADOR PANAMA COSTA RICA ... BELIZE The Amazon is still the largest expanse of tropical rainforest anywhere on the planet. The variety of ecosystems within this huge forest wilderness and the diversity of plant and animal species to be found there is truly staggering. We are now offering an expanded range of eco-tours to this fascinating region to facilitate even more intimate nature experiences and glimpses into the wonders of the rainforest. Birding trips at remote forest reserves, canopy exploration and camping trips to Manu and 'Jungle survival training' for real adventurers are about as close to nature as you can get. In response to popular demand we are now also offering two trips to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, as well as some other trekking tours to virtually pristine regions of the Andes that are way off the trodden path. Explore the ancient mysteries of Peru, visit ancient ruins and cities of lost civilizations of the past or ponder the enigma of the Nazca Lines. Peru is a country of mystery and discovery. TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER AND POSADA AMAZONAS [MORE INFO] Way down in the southwest corner of the Peruvian Amazon, where the Tambopata River and the Madre de Dios River converge, lies the Tambopata Nature Reserve, one Peru's most formidable Rainforest Reserves, that includes within its perimeters, both montane and lowland forest, offering visitors a spectacular range wildlife diversity.

Government: Independent nation since 1981, member of British Commonwealth of Nations. Parliamentary democracy with two major political parties, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the People's United Party (PUP). The new prime minister elected in August 1998, will be PUP leader Said Musa, a British-educated lawyer. Belize has a Westminster-style political system patterned on England's system. Belize's system calls for the election at least once every five years of 29 Representatives, from whose body the prime minister is selected. The eight members of the Belize Senate are appointed by the party in power rather than standing for election.UDP currently holds power, led by Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel. Belize has a Constitution, which includes a Bill of Rights. Location: Belize lies on the eastern coastline of Central America, bordered on the north by Mexico, on the west and south by Guatemala, and on the east by the Caribbean Sea. It is separated by sea from its neighbor to the southwest, Honduras. Size: Approximately 8,866 square miles. Belize's mainland is approximately 180 miles long and up to 68 miles wide. Belize also consists of over 200 cayes (islands), ranging in size from a few hundred feet to 25 miles long and four miles wide; most of which are located inside the 200 mile Belize Reef.
