This is the home page for The Animal Clinic . We are a full service, multi-doctor veterinary hospital on Galveston Island in Texas. We emphasize preventive care. We have the capability to do major and minor surgery with the safest anesthesia and patient monitoring equipment and modern pain control techniques. The Animal Clinic has comprehensive in-house diagnostic equipment (bloodwork, radiology, ECG, endoscope and more) but we don't hesitate to use outside labs and certified veterinary specialists to insure your pet gets the highest quality care. We also understand that most pet problems are not planned and therefore can be disruptive to your finances. We offer PAYMENT PLANS with approved credit to ease this problem. In some cases we can even provide 90 days with no payments. Please ask about this service if money is the thing keeping your pet from receiving necessary health care. Video Endoscopy is one of our diagnostic tools. This is used as a non-invasive method to evaluate the digestive system and in some cases, the respiratory system. It is very useful in cases involving diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and chronic coughing.

Introducing New Pets to Resident Pets
Contents Factors to Consider Introducing a New Cat to a Resident Cat Introducing a New Dog to a Resident Dog Introducing a New Dog to a Resident Cat ... Return to menu. Factors to Consider There are many factors to consider when introducing pets for the first time. The species, breed, size, gender, age, individual temperament and health status of each pet all contribute to their initial encounter and eventual coexistence. With so many factors to consider, it is virtually impossible to predict how one pet will respond to another. Not all dogs and cats are destined to be antagonists. Not every sexually intact (uncastrated) male will reject a new male in its territory. If you already have a dog (or cat), adding a second one of the opposite sex does not guarantee they will get along. Sometimes the most unlikely pets become instant and life-long companions. Sometimes the intolerance of one or both is immediate and enduring. Often the initial period of conflict evolves over time toward a minimum of mutual tolerance. Also, once-stable relationships can degenerate for a variety of reasons. Here are some general guidelines for introducing a new pet to resident pets: Take your time. A gradual process of discovery and investigation is best.

Ferrets as pets

A century or so ago, if you owned a ferret, you probably used it for hunting. These sleek, limber little critters would be turned loose to flush rabbits or other game out of holes. The sport of ferreting has since been made illegal, so most ferrets you find now are pets. A pet ferret has many of the same characteristics as a cat. It can be trained to use a litter box, which is always helpful. They're also incredibly curious, and groom themselves just like cats, including hacking up the occasional hairball.

Problems with behavior

The same things that people love about cats can cause problem behavior. Cats are curious, which leads them to explore countertops and other places where they're not welcome. Exercise for your dog
One of the joys of owning a dog is the opportunity to play with it. And one of the advantages of playing with your dog is that it's great exercise. Regular exercise is an important part of maintaining your pet's health. Barking Barking dogs are often a nuisance and can cause problems for both owners and neighbors. To correct excessive barking, first try training to change this pattern of behavior.
