When Discipline is Necessary

Cats are basically pretty well-behaved critters, and rarely "act out" unless there is a problem. For example, a cat will not urinate on your bed because he is "mad" at you, nor scratch the arms of your favorite chair because he is "stubborn."
Explore more about undesirable behavior and how to control it, for the most part without anything resembling discipline.

Ocicat
Head 25 Pts
Skull Muzzle Ears Eyes Body 25 Pts Size Torso Tail 25 Pts Texture Coat Color Contrast Eye Color Pattern 25 Pts General: The Ocicat is a medium to large, well spotted agouti cat of moderate type. It displays the look of an athletic animal, well muscled and solid, graceful and lithe, yet with a fullness of body and chest. Head: The skull is a modified wedge showing a slight curve from muzzle to cheek, with a visible, but gentle, rise from the bridge of the nose to the brow. The muzzle is broad and well defined with a suggestion of squareness and in profile shows good length. The chin is strong and the jaw firm with a proper bite. The moderate whisker pinch is not too severe. The head is carried gracefully on an arching neck. An allowance is made for jowls on a mature male. Ears: Alert, moderately large, and set so as to corner the upper, outside dimensions of the head. If an imaginary horizontal line is drawn across the brow, the ears should be set at a 45 degree angle (i.e.; neither too high nor too low). When they occur, ear tufts extending vertically from the tips of the ears are a bonus.

151. BIRMAN

Birman Head 15 Pts Ears 5 Pts Eyes 5 Pts Body 20 Pts Tail 5 Pts 5 Pts Coat 15 Pts Texture Length Color 30 Pts Gloves Laces General: The Birman is a longhaired, long (but heavy boned) cat which strikes a happy medium between the extremes of the cobby, heavy boned cats and long fine boned cats. No single attribute is to be emphasized over the overall impression of a well balanced aesthetically beautiful cat. The cat has a good disposition and is easy to handle. Head: Skull strong, broad and rounded. Slight flat spot just in front of the ears, forehead slopes slightly back. Nose, itself is Roman in shape, medium length with nostrils set low. There is a definite stop between the eyes. Cheeks full, jaws heavy (allow for delicacy in females). There is a definite muzzle, which comes out from the rest of the head and which carries the Roman shaped nose. Fur is shorter in appearance about the face, longer at extreme outer areas of cheeks. Ears Medium in size, neither large nor small but in pleasing proportion to the head, set moderately far apart. Eyes: The inner corner of each eye should be set just to the side of the bridge of the nose at the stop.

Burmese
Head 25 Pts Roundness Full face w/proper profile Breadth between eyes Ear set and placement Eyes 10 Pts Color 25 Pts Body Tail Color 25 Pts Coat 10 Pts Short Texture Close lying Condition 5 Pts General: The overall impression of the ideal Burmese would be a cat of medium size and rich, solid color with substantial bone structure, good muscular development and a surprising weight for its size. This together with its expressive eyes and sweet face, presents a totally distinctive cat which is comparable to no other breed. Head and Ears: The head should be pleasingly rounded without flat planes, whether viewed from front or side. Face should be full, with considerable breadth between the eyes, tapering slightly to a short, well-developed muzzle. In profile there should be a visible nose break. The chin is firmly rounded, reflecting a proper bite. The head sits on a short, well-developed neck. Ears to be medium in size and set well apart on a rounded skull; alert, tilting slightly forward, broad at base and slightly rounded tips. Eyes: The eyes are large but not protuberant, set well apart and with round aperture, with color ranging from yellow to gold, the greater the depth and brilliance the better.

It should "fit together", all parts balanced without emphasizing any one particular quality. Medium in size, long and svelte. A distinct combination of fine bones and firm solid muscles giving a surprising sensation of solid weight without excessive built. A fully mature Siamese, at approximately two years of age, has the grace, elegance and beauty of no other cat. Type over color is preferred at all times. Head: The head should be long, evenly proportioned, tapering wedge with straight lines, to a fine muzzle. A wedge, as viewed from the top or front, is created by straight lines from outer ear bases along sides of muzzle. The total wedge starts at the nose and flares out in straight lines to the ears forming a triangle, without a break in jaw line at the whiskers. When the whiskers are smoothed back, the underlying bone structure is apparent.
