Holocaust Survivors Sue Sotheby's Over Looted Art
"Sotheby's is facing a $1.8 billion lawsuit from Holocaust survivors who claim it has recklessly trafficked in works of art stolen from Jews during the Second World War. They allege Sotheby's helped buy and sell looted masterpieces by Rembrandt, Titian, El Greco, Monet, Van Gogh and others since the 1970s." The Observer (UK)
Posted: 06/07/2004 5:45 pm Gagosian's New Digs There's been much hype about Larry Gagosian's new gallery space in London. "The Gagosian Gallery proves to be a modest creation, housed in a former garage in Britannia Street, a rats' alley smelling of diesel and urine, scuttling across the Metropolitan and Circle underground lines as they rattle between Farringdon and King's Cross-St Pancras. Behind the gaunt facade, Larry Gagosian's architects, Caruso St John, best known for their New Art Gallery, in Walsall, which opened in 2000, have opened up bright, cavernous, concrete-floored, top-lit white spaces. These are particularly refined white spaces; they have something of a religious air about them..." The Guardian (UK)
Posted: 06/07/2004 5:39 pm Qatar Sheikh"s Buying Spree For Five Museums Sheikh Saud al-Thani of Qatar is building five new museums and is serious about collecting for them. "A team of London agents working for the Sheikh bought 350 of the top lots in last months’ Islamic sales, spending well in excess of £15 million. The objects are all destined for the Museum of Islamic Art under construction in Doha to the designs of I.M. Pei, the Chinese-American architect coaxed out of retirement by Sheikh Saud. With its completion scheduled for 2006, the Islamic museum will be the first of the five to open, and the Sheikh‘s determination to buy the very best for its collection is having an extraordinary effect on the Islamic art market."

    Introduction
In the communications field, ideas are transmitted through mass media. Communications professionals seek to inform, educate, persuade, or entertain masses of people, using books, newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, film, advertising and public relations. Communication and Journalism/Mass Media graduates find opportunities in a wide variety of careers in business, education, government and the non-profit sectors. Skills in verbal and written communication are one of the most sought after characteristics employers look for when hiring. Radio and TV, advertising and public relations, publishing, sales, financial services, and university student services are but a few of the many areas in which these graduates find employment. Any work that involves communicating as its focal point is a potential career field. The communications industry is a competitive one, however, and experience is a must. While most graduates work in a related occupation, others choose different directions. Experience has allowed many to progress without further education. However, an advanced degree can offer an edge, particularly with larger corporations. Many careers do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Regardless of your career choices, increase your marketability to employers through internships, responsible work experience, good grades and involvement in college activities.

    MR. OCTOBER
a sexy romantic comedy available now from NCP Grace Whitney is an up-and-coming fundraiser, and she's determined to make a success of her first really big project—the Firefighters' Charity Calendar. So she makes it really hot, even though she knows her uptight parents—and a lot of other people—will disapprove. This isn't easy for Grace, who is essentially an old-fashioned girl. She doesn't need anyone to tell her that the blatantly sexy Mr. October is Mr. Totally Wrong, as far as she's concerned. Sexy firefighter Rory Crewe is happy to pose as Mr. October for the Firefighters' Charity Calendar, and takes on a leadership role in the Firefighters' Calendar publicity campaign. It's not Rory's nature to act as a testosterone-driven, outrageously sexy ladies' man—and that's what the campaign seems to require. But he's willing to play the part for the cause. It takes conscious effort at first, but Rory finds that in fact, he's good at it. Especially around Grace, who sets him on fire. Trouble is, he's falling for Grace, and he's been playing the role of unrepentant womanizer so well, that she believes it's the real him!

Home Officers AMWA.org ... Contact Toolkit for New Medical Writers Toolkit for New Medical Writers By the Delaware Valley Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association Contents Opportunities in Medical Writing top Medical writing is a great career! The work is interesting and often lucrative, and the demand for medical writers is high. Few people start out to be medical writers; most of us fall into it. Some of us have scientific or medical degrees (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD in a scientific field) and have worked in the field (e.g., as an academic, bench scientist, physician, pharmacist) or in administration and somehow find ourselves doing medical communications work. Some of us have Journalism or English degrees, work in communications, and end up writing about health and medicine. There are two basic types of medical writer: scientific and non-scientific or marketing. In general, scientific medical writers have advanced science-based degrees (science, medicine, pharmacy, etc.) and often learn about writing by becoming a medical writer. Marketing medical writers have a journalism or English degree and often learn about medicine by becoming a medical writer. Scientific medical writers generally do more scientific/technical writing for professional audiences. Marketing medical writers do marketing-oriented writing, often for consumers or lay audiences.
