Our Program
The Introduction to Performing Arts Careers program is a first-year option of the General Arts and Science program, providing students with an overview of the many career options in the performing arts, as well as an insight into the basic skills needed to compete for a place in professional theatre schools in Canada and abroad. Courses will be taught by artists and teachers from the performing arts professions. Students will have ample opportunity to meet Canadian artists, directors, designers, writers and technicians, both in the classroom and on special field trips. Your Career
At the end of the second semester, students will be prepared for further study in a formal performing arts career-training program.

Concert Band:
Concert band is an introductory course to high school wind and percussion literature. Emphasis is placed on developing basic performance skills. Literature ranges from simple to moderate levels. Rehearsals stress preparation of concert music, fundamentals of wind and percussion, technique, music, reading, music history, and basic music theory. Performances include concerts, festivals, and related school activities. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances are required. An activity fee may be required for this course.
Marching Band:
Emphasis is placed on marching band performances such as parades, football games and field tournaments. This is an active organization with many rehearsals and performances in addition to classroom time. Rehearsals begin in late August. Contact the director for schedule. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances required. This course fulfills a P.E. requirement and is only offered first semester. This course does not fulfill the District fine arts graduation requirement. An activity for the may be required for this course.
Symphonic Band:
Symphonic band is comprised of accomplished musicians will play moderate to difficult music that requires considerable skill. Rehearsals stress preparation of concert music, fundamentals with proper wind and percussion technique, music reading, music history, and music theory. The symphonic band presents musical programs for the school and the community as well as participating in judged festivals. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is required. An activity fee may be required for this course.
