  • MORE INFORMATION
What is a Biomedical Engineer? A Biomedical Engineer uses traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve problems in biology and medicine, providing an overall enhancement of health care. Students choose the biomedical engineering field to be of service to people, to partake of the excitement of working with living systems, and to apply advanced technology to the complex problems of medical care. The biomedical engineer works with other health care professionals including physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians. Biomedical engineers may be called upon in a wide range of capacities: to design instruments, devices, and software, to bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures, or to conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. http://www.princeton.edu/~prudhomm/admin.shtml
      Administrative Information
Official Description The Program in Engineering Biology is designed for those highly motivated students who are interested in pursuing careers or graduate education in the areas of biotechnology or bioengineering. The interface between engineering science and the life sciences has been an area of dramatic growth and intellectual vigor. Innovations and new developments in this area require multidisciplinary approaches and greater exposure to life science and engineering science fundamentals than is available from a single department. For engineering majors, in addition to courses in those subjects fundamental to the student's major, the program encourages the study of cellular and molecular biology, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, and neuroscience. For biological and chemical sciences majors, the program offers study in biotechnology, bioseparations, biomechanics, thermodynamics, control theory, hazardous waste management, electronics, computer graphics, and information theory. Requirements for Admission Students are formally admitted to the program once they have declared a major. Any student enrolled in the School of Engineering or the Departments of Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, or Molecular Biology is eligible to participate in the program. A student planning to enroll in the program should consult the director of the program, who will assign a special adviser to help plan the program of study. Freshmen are encouraged to consult with the program director as early as possible to begin planning appropriate course sequences.
