Aerospace Careers: Engineering Mission Planner
At the Dryden Flight Research Center, NASA's premier aeronautical facility, engineering mission planners (EMPs) are involved in all flight projects.
What is an Engineering Mission Planner?
This highly modified F-15 was a NASA research aircraft for most of the 1990s. Often described as aeronautical engineers "on the go," their main responsibilities include establishing flight test procedures, developing flight test plans, coordinating research requirements, developing flight cards, coordinating pilot training, and taking part in pre- and post-flight briefings. Engineering mission planners monitor their research flights in the mission control center, keeping in radio contact with the pilot. They conclude each mission by writing post-flight reports, filling out logbooks, and starting preparations for the next flight.
The Work of Engineering Mission Planners
When a research project at Dryden nears the flight phase, the project engineer begins depending on an engineering mission planner to keep the operations schedule coordinated properly and intact. One of the EMP's first tasks is setting up a database to keep track of all the parameters and restrictions associated with the project aircraft and any modifications to the structure. This database is used to establish the operational envelope of the research aircraft - speeds, limits on maneuvering and G-forces, maximum altitude, load-carrying capability, and other similar factors based on structural dynamics, propulsion, and safety.

Skilled Asian American engineers, IT pros and other techies are in demand, and not just because they are very good at what they do. Another factor is recruiters' perception that the Asian culture stresses a deep dedication to a hard, meticulous work ethic. Asians were among the wave of immigrants that helped build America in the mid-1800s. New waves continued to arrive throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, to the point where the population of the United States is now about 4.5 percent Asian. Your success will depend on the level of effort you put into your education and training. Make the most of your opportunities now for a future in Computing.
Why Computing? Today, computers are used in almost every aspect of our lives: in car engines, microwave ovens, video games, watches, telephones, desktops at home and work, mainframe computers in government and industry, and supercomputers expanding the frontiers of science and technology. The computer industry is one of the fastest growing segments of our economy and that growth promises to continue well into the next century. To maintain a competitive edge, industry and commerce must continue to make creative scientific and engineering advances as well as produce high quality products. More than ever, there is a demand for a prepared work force with the scientific and technical training necessary to perform effectively on the job. Now is the time to plan your future in computing.
    Preparing for College
Academic Preparation Most professionals in the computing industry have at least an undergraduate degree in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, information systems, or electrical engineering. Many have advanced degrees. They, however, all started preparing for their careers long before they began their undergraduate degrees.

A Victory for the Student Researcher: Chou v. University of Chicago
Duke Law and Technology Review . "For years, graduate and other student researchers at universities have alleged that the hierarchical system in academic research allows supervising PhDs to steal and patent inventions that were rightfully discovered by students. In July 2001, the Federal Circuit finally addressed these concerns by interpreting the law in a way that strictly protects the rights of student researchers. This article examines this long-overdue change in the law and discusses its potential implications."

    http://www.aiche.org/careers/

It would take too long to list all the products that are impacted by chemical engineers, but knowing what industries employ them may help you comprehend the scope of their work. Chemical engineers work in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, design and construction, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, food processing, specialty chemicals, microelectronics, electronic and advanced materials, polymers, business services, biotechnology, and environmental health and safety industries, among others. Specifically, chemical engineers improve food processing techniques, and methods of producing fertilizers, to increase the quantity and quality of available food. They also construct the synthetic fibers that make our clothes more comfortable and water resistant; they develop methods to mass-produce drugs, making them more affordable; and they create safer, more efficient methods of refining petroleum products, making energy and chemical sources more productive and cost effective. Chemical engineers also develop solutions to environmental problems, such as pollution control and remediation.
