Today's businesses need creative, highly educated marketing specialists who understand the contemporary global and technological economy. At Golden Gate University, we monitor the developing trends in the marketplace and update our programs accordingly. That's how we're able to provide you with a first-rate marketing education that's both cutting-edge and grounded in the strong foundational skills you must have to compete. In your GGU classes, you'll learn to identify issues relating to international marketing and technology, and create new solutions to those issues. We offer a range of specializations so you can develop a deeper level of expertise in one of several important marketing areas. As a student, you have access to one of the West Coast's premier business libraries, which has computerized business and media databases, and is accessible electronically from all sites. You also may join the student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) for social and business networking opportunities. Course credit and work experience are supplemented by our internship program, which often evolves into permanent career positions. Marketing students have participated in programs with Charles Schwab, Oracle, Bill Graham Presents and other leading corporations. Classes are held year-round in the evenings and on the weekends in a variety of weekly formats. You can enroll year-round and begin taking classes at the start of any term. The average student attends part time and is 32 years of age.

Magazine Careers Freelancer
A freelance writer works independently and writes articles for any number of different publications. In other words, he or she is employed one article at a time. Freelancers come up with story ideas on their own, research and develop those ideas, and then submit them to an editor at an appropriate magazine. If the editor likes the idea, he or she will hire the writer to write the story. It's hard to get established as a freelancer, but when you do, you can enjoy career independence, the freedom to develop your own writing style and area of specialization, a flexible work schedule, and access to interesting people and places. The down side is that you have no job security (but who does anymore?), no employer-provided health benefits, and irregular income and work. Lots of people freelance part-time while they work at another job. Those who want to write for a magazine but prefer having a steady job join the staff of a magazine as an editor (see next listing). Advertising, sales promotion and public relations represent three extremely important forms of marketing communication. Most of us can not help being exposed to hundreds of ads, promotions and even news stories each day. The amount of money spent on these three areas is staggering so it is no wonder this is one of the largest areas. Area Coverage:

This is a popular sector for Exeter graduates and there is hot competition for jobs. It can often be useful to gain postgraduate qualifications in the relevant subject area is your undergraduate degree is in a different topic but, beware, there are many courses on the market and they are not all equally successful in getting you that "dream job". Work experience can be very useful so try and get relevant vacation work or placements - try your own contacts, Exepert and the STEP scheme as well as well publicised but competitive schemes with large companies.
