General Information on Starting a Career in Archaeology
FAQs
School
Question: What classes should I take in high school to become an archaeologist? Answer: It is best to have a well-rounded course schedule for college preparation that includes English, math, science, and arts. Archaeology is a very comprehensive discipline which incorporates ideas and information from many other disciplines of study. Find something that interests you, such as architecture, arts, music, mathematics, social studies, political science, or even economics. There are ways to make your interests applicable to archaeological study. A liberal arts education is very useful for a career in archaeology. But there are also some very technical aspects to archaeology, it is important to have a basic knowledge of chemistry, geology, and geography. Question: What kind of education do I need to become an active archaeologist? Answer: At the very minimum you need a 4-year college degree, usually in Anthropology. Most supervisory or analytical jobs in archaeology require a Masters degree (M.A., M.S.), which usually takes another 1-3 years. Finally, to become a professor and to manage really large, interesting projects requires a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), which runs another 4+ years beyond the other two degrees. Archaeologists are often in their early thirties before they are finished with school. Question: Can you recommend a good school for archaeology?

SPORTS NEWS YOU CAN USE
Issue 38Sports Journalism - TV
Sports News is going to focus on sports journalism for several issues. There are fewer available jobs in sports journalism than in management or retailing, but the topic should still be of interest to anyone who has wondered how people become sports reporters or commentators. Rather than lump all journalism jobs together, I'm going to take a look at the different media (print, radio, television) separately. All sports journalism jobs require the ability to communicate to an audience, but often the different media require different skills and training. I'll start with television jobs since those usually attract the most attention. What Types of Careers in Television Are Available? Television jobs fall into three basic categories: on-camera, off-camera, and technical. Of the three, on-camera work is the area most athletes think about getting into. It's the glamorous side of the business (e.g.,reporter, analyst, commentator, talk-show host). Off-camera work involves all the behind-the-scenes activities that are necessary to get a show on the air (e.g., writing, researching, producing). Technical jobs have more to do with running the equipment (e.g., camera operator, lighting director, audio technician). There are so many different job options within the television industry that to cover them all in detail is beyond the scope of this newsletter. It would take a book to explain who does what to create a nightly news show or a televised sporting event. However, since there are often misconceptions concerning the hiring of television personnel, I will discuss some factors (including sports experience, sports knowledge, educational background, and on-the-job training) which play a role in landing a job in sports television journalism.

general information, profile, statistics, and career details.
http://www.oakley.no/
The future star in Premier League Former England under-21 international, Oakley, made his first team debut when he was still a trainee, and has been at Southampton all his career.
The creative midfielder possesses fine vision and is an astute link man between midfield and attack with a gritty edge to his game as and when required.
Oakley is normally used in one of the central midfield roles but has also filled in at right-back on occasions.
He went on to feature heavily for the Saints during the 2002/2003 season and Oakley was rewarded in January of that season, when he signed a two year extension to his current deal. That keeps him at the club until June 2006.
Unfortunately Oakley damaged his knee against Middlesbrough. We all wish the best, and hopefully he will be back fighting for goals and glory for the fabolous Southampton.
