Where To Find Information on Nonacademic Careers
By GABRIELA MONTELL
Making the decision to pursue a nonacademic career is a big step for many Ph.D.'s. But once you've taken it, the challenge becomes figuring out exactly what you want to do. You may be puzzled about how to proceed. That's why we've compiled a long, if not exhaustive, list of Web resources where you might find useful information and job listings on a variety of alternative careers. And if you know of a Web site not on our list that might help other Ph.D.'s, don't hesitate to alert us. Access to the Web sites listed is free unless otherwise noted.
Readers may select the following categories:

Job listings in chemical and allied industries from a bimonthly magazine published by the Society of Chemical Industry. National Council for Science and the Environment Lists nonacademic jobs and graduate assistantships in the environmental sciences. Alternative Careers in Biosciences Yale University's cellular and molecular biology group operates this site, which offers links to resources for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who want to pursue nonacademic careers.
