The Cardiac Center at The George Washington University Hospital provides one of the most comprehensive programs available for patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition to providing non-invasive testing, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology studies and rehabilitation, the Cardiac Center participates in a number of national research studies and has been active in the development of new treatments for heart disease.
All patients receive assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation of their individual care needs. Our cardiologists coordinate care with other members of the GW health care team including surgery, emergency and rehabilitation departments. Non-Invasive Testing The non-invasive cardiac laboratory includes tools to diagnose a variety of cardiac disorders. Studies can provide doctors with information about heart valves, heart muscle and the coronary arteries as well as possible congenital heart abnormalities. The following is a list of non-invasive procedures available:

on (heart) drugs for life to be completely off medical therapy after the procedure, said Jonathan Steinberg, MD, an electrophysiologist and Chief of cardiology
    http://heart.wehealny.org/event_new/procedure.html
Procedure Offers Cure for Irregular Heart Beat A revolutionary catheter technique used in the treatment of the most prevalent type of irregular heartbeat is changing the lives of patients who have undergone the procedure at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City.
Ablation therapy using radiofrequency energy has successfully cured patients with atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart rhythm abnormality. "It has enabled people who would have previously been placed on heart drugs for life to be completely off medical therapy after the procedure," said Jonathan Steinberg, MD, an electrophysiologist and Chief of Cardiology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt. "Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is particularly prevalent among the elderly or those with cardiovascular disease. However, it can also be a troubling problem for younger patients without heart disease."
John McFee, a 36-year-old pharmacist and former New York City police lieutenant, had symptoms that felt like squirrels running around his chest, which started as palpitations about three years ago and gradually got worse, giving him a lot of pain and anxiety. "I was told to stay off alcohol and caffeine, tried to reduce stress and was put on a beta-blocker, but nothing helped," he said. He left the NYPD after suffering hip injury and had to have hip replacement. After the ablation procedure by Dr. Steinberg in April he has been totally off his heart medications and is feeling well. "I feel like a new man!" exclaimed Mr. McFee.

Continuum (heart) Institute now offers an Adult Congenital (heart) Disease (CHD)Clinic staffed by specialists in adult cardiology with adult CHD training.
    http://heart.wehealny.org/diagnos_treat/adult_congen/adult_congen.html
Continuum Heart Institute now offers an Adult Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Clinic staffed by specialists in adult cardiology with adult CHD training. The clinic also is supported by a team of experts in pediatric cardiology, noninvasive cardiac imaging and cardiac electrophysiology. Although the number of infants born with CHD has remained constant at about four to six per 1000 live births, advances in pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery over the past three decades have dramatically changed the outcomes and prognoses for these patients. Over 85 percent of these children can now be expected to reach adulthood. As a result, the population with adult congenital heart disease is expected to continue to increase. This means that there is an entire population of adults with corrected anomalies who need follow-up and another population (such as immigrant groups) without awareness of their anomalies. Surgical repair is seldom curative, and more often palliative. It leaves residue for manifestation of infection, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and exercise intolerance, making care from adult CHD-trained cardiologists essential.
